How Did You Know?

I opened my daily devotion book.  It was given to me by a precious Proverbs 31 Gather and Grow Group in Pennsylvania almost exactly 2 years ago.  I was amazed then and I’m still amazed now.

I remember opening this book and turning to the date of the day. As I read the first line I said, “How did you know?”  It seemed as if the author of the book knew exactly where to place that day’s devotion because it was EXACTLY what I needed.  I hear this from women everyday at Proverbs 31 Ministries.  It amazes me how many women read our online devotions and say, “How did you know?”  “How did we know what?”  I often say.  Even though I already know the answer.  “How did you know exactly what I was struggling with, exactly what I needed to hear, the exact message I needed from God?”  It brings a smile to my face every time.

The truth is, the author and editor of the devotions doesn’t know what we need on any given day.  But God does.  He knew what I needed today.  Today I opened the book Jesus Calling by Sarah Young and read, “You are feeling weighed down by a plethora of problems both big and small.” How did you know???????

I could write about how amazed I am once again that God knew exactly what I needed today (Because the truth is He loves me that much and would have Sarah Young place that devotion on Feb.19th in her book just for Melissa Taylor. Yep, I believe that. I really do. Call me crazy, but He loves me that much!), but instead I’ll just copy the devotion here for you.  It could be that it’s just what you need today too. Because He loves you that much.  Here it is:

You are feeling weighed down by a plethora of problems, both big and small.  They seem to require more and more of your attention, but you  must not give in to those demands.  When the difficulties in your life feel as if they’re closing in on you, break free by spending quality time with Me.  You need to remember who I am in all My Power and Glory.  Then, humbly bring Me your prayers and petitions; your problems will pale when you view them in the Light of My Presence.  You can learn to be joyful in Me, your Savior, even in the midst of adverse circumstances.  Rely on Me, your Strength; I will make your feet like the feet of a deer, enabling you to go on the heights. (Habakkuk 3:16-19)

How did you know?

Thank You Lord for providing for my needs every day.  I love You.

Melissa

  1. Oh Melissa….tears are filling my eyes…tears of joy for God’s tenderness and goodness. Is it not amazing how He cares so profoundly for us…and so individually. This morning I too was blown away by something He spoke to my heart, in direct answer to a request I had placed before Him. Lord, thank You for caring for us so deeply and ministering to each heart so specifically.

Love ya my friend and continuing to pray.
    Hugs,
    Joy

  2. Wow, Thank you for sharing! Just what I needed today!
    Nancy

  3. I LOVE it when God does this. He is so good and incredibly faithful. What a blessing, dear sister. Thanks for sharing.

  4. What I needed today is “Rely on Me, Your Strength.” I am needing that today as I am exhausted from Will having the flu. He is on the upswing and doing better, but as a mom when your baby is sick it is hard to sleep. I have found myself scared to sleep this week and therefor I have not hardly at all. Today I feel like I am going to collapse. God knows, He sees and I needed to pop over here and read this as I am eating lunch today. Thank You Melissa, He is my strength and He is our Healer.

    Love, Brandee

  5. That Gather & Grow Group is meeting tonight. God is faithful to meet you in His Word.

    We love you!

  6. I got that book after Christmas and LOVE it. I have said the same thing more than once also. And as I read todays, you were the one to come to my mind. So I took that nudge, I’m learning to obey that nudge, and prayed for you.

    Love you dearly!!

  7. Melissa, I read this and think “What IF I gave HIM everything?” See my problem is I have the “head knowledge” but I’ve got to get to the “heart knowledge”. That I’m not just believing and saying the right things, but living the right things. I’ve devoted this lent season to spending more time in His Word and I am sure of great and wonderful things from it. I might get a little closer to giving HIM everything. Thanks Melissa. How did you know? ; )

Oh, Melissa, I felt this way when I read a post from one of the Proverbs 31 women Friday Feb. 19. How did she know I needed what she wrote? God knew! On Thursday night I felt the way you did on Wednesday, “I’m tired of this life”. I’m finding that God always gives us the encouragement we need when we need it. He knows who to use to give us that encouragement. Last November God used you to encourage me. Thank you for that.

  9. Hey Melissa! I have been a lurker for a while now. I hope your mom is doing better. Thanks for all the encouragement you give and for “keeping it real”.

  10. That happens so often for me. I guess I am going have to go get Jesus Calling. i keep hearing many many great things from it. Still praying for you and your mother. Many Blessings!

  11. The same thing has happened to me with the same book:) I would say that this book has been transformational in my walk with the Lord! I am praying for you!
