Looking Ahead and Thinking

So, how was your Christmas?  Now that’s a loaded question isn’t it?  For some it was fabulous, others stressful, others meaningful, some fun, and some of you were just downright sad or lonely.  Whatever the case, I just hope you took some time to reflect on the reason we celebrate ~ Jesus.  :)   Here in the southeast United States, we received a rare gift…SNOW!  Its the first white Christmas of my life! And it’s still snowing. So, we are just a bit excited.

Beginning today, each Sunday and Thursday, I will be specifically writing on my blog to get us prepared for our upcoming Bible Study, Made to Crave.

In a recent blog post, I gave you your first assignment:

Drop the failure attitude. No more of this talk allowed. Wipe these statements out of your vocabulary NOW!  “I’m a failure.”  “I’m a loser.”  “I can’t do anything right.”  “What’s wrong with me?”   “I’m not going to be able to do this.”  (Add your own….these are mine!)   Replace those thoughts with this Truth from  Psalm 139:14:  “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;your works are wonderful,I know that full well.”

Continue this. It’s going to be half the battle.

Between now and our official starting date, January 16th, we will continue with small assignments.  All of these are to prepare you and encourage you in the journey you are about to begin. Get excited! You should be. I know I am.  There is hope for us. If you don’t believe it, just read some success stories from real women, just like us, who have already read Made to Crave.

And this is your assignment for today:  Read these success stories from the official Made to Crave website. After you have read their stories, pray.  Pray for yourself. Pray for me.  Pray for the other women who are joining us from all over the world (so far over 600 have signed up!).  Pray everyday for the Lord to prepare your heart, mind, and body for what is ahead.  Let’s look ahead with hope and begin thinking about how we are going to be spiritually empowered to become the healthy women God created us to be. Be thinking about the changes you will make and the healthy choices you will choose.  Author Lysa TerKeurst talks about “Getting a Plan” in Chapter 3 of MTC so there’s no need to rush to find the “plan” that’s right for you immediately, but let’s go ahead and at least put some thought into it.

Made to Crave is not a how-to manual or the latest, greatest dieting plan. It is a helpful companion to use alongside whatever healthy eating approach you choose—a book and bible study to help you find the “want to” in how to make healthy lifestyle changes. (from the back of the book)

Have a wonderful week!  I’ll be writing during this week, but my next official MTC (Made to Crave) post will be on Thursday.  Also keep checking the Online Bible Study Info section of this website for updates.  And if you haven’t signed up for the Bible Study yet, please do so!  I’ll be sending out my first email soon and if you want the info, you need to be signed up. (Sign ups are located in the side bar and in the Online Bible Study Info section of this blog.)

White Christmas Blessings!  I love you and believe in you <3 !

I Have Failed Again and Again

I have to be totally honest with you.  I’m a failure.

Sure, I’ve had my successes, but they haven’t lasted. Not all of them anyway.

This is especially true in the area of weight management.  I’ve written devotions and numerous blog posts over the years about this very thing.  When my weight is down, I feel like I have “it” all together.  And when my weight is up, I feel like I want to hide. I know my identity is not in how I look or what I weigh. I’m just telling you the truth, keepin’ in real.

I’ve been on so many diets.  These are the ones that come to mind:  Nutri-System, Weight Watchers, LA Weight Loss, Atkins, and the Belly Fat Cure.  I’ve had success on each of these.  Once I even got down to 119 pounds. That is surely successful, right?  Well, sure it WAS…only now that 119 has added 50.  Not so successful anymore.  Now, not only is it unsuccessful, but it’s downright embarrassing.  See the picture of me on this blog?  That is skinny me 4 years ago.  (For more realistic pics of me today, friend me on Facebook).  I am changing the pic of me on this blog soon, but honestly I like that picture.  If I put a new picture of me up, you might not like me so much.  (not true I know!)  Just expressing honest thoughts.

Now I just want to give this disclaimer:  I don’t think there is anything wrong with weight loss/management programs.  I really do think they all have their health benefits and values. I think they can provide health education, tools to succeed, and a great plan.  You may agree or disagree with them.  The problem with these programs I’ve been on however is not with them…it’s with me.

Made to Crave.

In a way, I want to avoid this book.  If I avoid it, I can just keep on playing ignorant.  I can just blame my failure on the diet.  But if I’m truthful, is it really the diet or my own lack of discipline?  My own choice to turn to food instead of my True Comforter?

Honestly, I’m not sure and that’s exactly why I’m excited about doing Lysa TerKeurst’s newest Bible Study, Made to Crave.

I’ve seen Lysa over the years.  I’ve seen her struggle with her weight and self image in the past and  I’ve seen her content in the present.  I want what she has now.  By that I don’t mean the body or weight on the scale.  I want what makes her content.  And that has nothing to do with what she eats.  It has to do with what she craves.  It is all about God.  That’s what Made to Crave is all about.

I’m leading an Online Bible Study beginning in January on this very thing.  I would love to have you join me.  I want to help you and for sure I can use all the help I can get!  Together I believe we can get to the root of our food issues for once and for all.  We can begin to crave our Creator…our God…our Jesus…and put that chips and dip back on the shelf.  Aren’t you sick of living this failure in life attitude?  Aren’t you tired of trying so darn hard?   I know I am.

Maybe it’s not food that’s your issue.  It might be something else.  If you are craving anything else above God, then I invite you to join me in 6 weeks of transformation with the Made to Crave Online Bible Study.  See the Online Bible Study Info section of this blog for information on how to participate.

As we enter into Christmas, do not feel guilty for anything you’ve done.  This is a new beginning.  A fresh start.

Bible Study Participants, Your 1st Assignment begins today:  Drop the failure attitude. No more of this talk allowed. Wipe these statements out of your vocabulary NOW!  “I’m a failure.”  “I’m a loser.”  “I can’t do anything right.”  “What’s wrong with me?”   “I’m not going to be able to do this.”  (Add your own….these are mine!)   Replace those thoughts with this Truth from  Psalm 139:14:

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

Repeat that each time any failing or negative thought about yourself comes into your head. Even if you don’t feel just do it.

Together we can make our God-sized dreams come true.

Christmas Blessings and Lots of Love <3
