Made to Crave~ Week 1

Here we go ladies!  I hope you are ready. No more excuses. No more putting it off. It’s time to get serious, make some changes, and most especially grow strong in your relationship with the Lord.

This time WILL be different.

(sorry I look so mean in this still shot!  I’m not angry!)  And as you can see, the me in this video is worlds away from the me in the picture on this blog.  (the pic on my blog was taken 4 years ago at my skinniest weight in 25 years. Plus my zits were airbrushed off and my eyelashes were airbrushed on. Below in the video…this is me today.)

Quick explanation: I’m not sure what you envisioned the Online Bible Study to be like, but you will not be spoon-fed here. You will do the work on your own, at any time of day, and at your own intensity. I will be your guide and serve as a resource, encourager, and sometimes teacher, but the workload is all yours. (and mine too, because I’ll be doing the study with you!)  I’M SO EXCITED!!!!

Visit the Made to Crave website to download and print the Fridge sign for week 1. This week’s word is:

EMPOWERED

Each time you are tempted this week or you become discouraged, remember that your power comes from God. We are empowered by Him. You have the power girl!  Yea you do!  Say it like this, “I got da powahhh!”  (it’s just funner that way!)

Reading and Homework Assignments for Week 1:

(If you are using the Participant’s guide, that’s great, you will love it. This schedule follows the same as the PG, only you will have a little more work to do. I will not be reviewing or going over the PG on my blog. That is for your own personal study.  Same with the DVD.)

Sunday-Read the Introduction chapter.  Highlight and take notes as you read. Anything that jumps off that page and empowers you, write it on an index card or in a journal. Share in the comment section of this blog or on the new Online Bible Studies Facebook page where discussions about Made to Crave have already begun.

Monday-Read Chapter 1.  Highlight and take notes as you read. When you get to a Bible verse that Lysa mentions, take our your Bible.  Look up the verse for yourself. Underline it and write “MTC” beside it. Think on the verse or passage a moment. Journal or make a few index cards with Scripture or quotes that will keep you grounded or empower you.

Tuesday-Complete Chapter 1 Reflection Questions.  Read the questions and record your answers in a journal or notebook. Be honest. These are just for your eyes or whoever you choose to share them with. Share as much or as little as you like in the comments section of my blog or on the Online Bible Studies Facebook page.

Wednesday-Read Chapter 2. Follow the same directions as on Monday.  Check Melissa’s blog for an encouraging mid-week message!  Post a comment to encourage others.  If you have any questions for the Vlog on Friday, email them to Melissa.  Melissa@MelissaTaylor.org. (info on this will be posted in Tuesday’s blogpost)

Thursday-Complete Chapter 2 Reflection Questions. Follow the same directions as on Tuesday. Share as much or as little as you like in the comments section of my blog or on the Online Bible Studies Facebook page.

Thursday Conference Call!!!-This is the first call for those participating in the calls. Tonight’s special guests are DeAnnah Baker, Mary Beth Townley, and LeAnn Rice. You can view their profiles on the Online Bible Study Info page on this blog.  Tonight’s message from me is “Dare to Believe”.  You should have received the call-in information and outline on Wednesday.

Friday-Read Chapter 3.  This is the chapter where Lysa talks about how important it is to have a plan! Follow the same instructions as Monday and Wednesday. (you see a pattern forming here?)

Friday Vlog!!! Log on to this blog, www.MelissaTaylor.org.  Watch a short video of me answering some of your questions from the week.

Friday Option: If you want to have all your work done before the weekend, go ahead and complete the Chapter 3 Reflection Questions.  Follow the same instructions as Monday and Wednesday.

Saturday Option-If you didn’t do the Chapter 3 Reflection Questions on Friday, do them today.

Okay, that’s it!  Print or “favorite” this page so you can keep up with this week’s study. I won’t be posting the schedule daily, so hold on to this!

I’m so glad we have gotten started!  It’s time to quit making excuses, giving in, feeling guilty, resolving to do better and then mentally beating ourselves up for not sticking to our resolve. It might not be easy, but we can do it.  I’ll be praying for you :)

And oh no I did not forget…WE HAVE WINNERS!!!!  From the comments left on Friday, randomly selected to win the Conference Call Series, the winners are…drum roll puh leeze!

1. Pam, email beginning pamwaldo

2. Ann Marie, email beginning dixoname

3. Lisa, email beginning jsb_lowe

Email me at Melissa@MelissaTaylor.org if this is you. Include your name, address, phone number, and email where you can be contacted.  I’ll be in touch!  Congrats!

Sweet Non-Caloric Blessings to Each of You!

  1. I didn’t get to listen to your video last night, but just got done listening. I love your upbeat attitude. I’m really looking forward to doing this online study with all of you. I ordered my book and participant’s guide from Amazon and just tracked my order. I should have my book by Saturday, but I’m praying it will make it a little sooner. I am so excited. Thank you Melissa for taking the time to put on this study. God bless you and all you that are participating.

  2. Hi Melissa,

I’m really struck by the concept of being overweight physically but underweight spiritually – that really convicted me and spoke to where I have been and currently am right now.

I was also really convicted by this statement: “My weight is a direct reflection of my choices and the state of my health.” When I read this, I was immediately seeing a vision of myself with all these choices and health issues written across my body – the times I ate out of stress for this reason or that; the times I gave myself extended permission to eat whatever I wanted because it was a holiday; the health challenges and struggles I’ve faced because of my food choices and weight – fatigue, infertility, depression, low energy, etc. And then I realized that not only can I see these things, but the people around me can too when they look at me and they see my weight and how I feel about myself in this moment at this weight.

“How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God” (Psalm 84:1-2).

I confess that I have often put food far before you, Abba, and for that I am truly sorry. I confess that my kitchen table has been my altar whenI should have spent that time nose-deep in my Bible seeking Your truth and Your way. Please help me to re-direct myself onto a better path; a path that puts you square in the center of my yearning and desire. Help me make better, smarter food choices that are beneficial for me and to realize that the only true satisfaction is to be found in my relationship with you rather than in the next thing I bake or cook. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

  3. I just got my book today and am ready to go!! I can feel it, this time WILL be different and the changes that are coming will be amazing!!

  4. I think one of the things that stands out to me is finding my “want to.” I know that is going to be one of the biggest struggles for me, but I can feel my heart starting to give a little. I truly want to crave God more than I crave food. I’m not there, which is why I know God has sent me down this path. This goes right along with Lysa’s statement in the introduction “God made us capable of craving so we’d have an unquenchable desire for more of Him, and Him alone.”

In keeping with our word of the week EMPOWERED, I thought this statement did a good job of summing that up “I am made to rise up, do battles with my issues and, using the Lord’s strength in me, defeat them — spiritually, physically, and mentally — to the glory of God.” AMEN!

    I Got Da Powahhh! :)

  5. Mary Beth says:

girlfriend I finally watched your video. You crack me up!! Sisters out there, our good God gave us a gift of laughter and let’s never forget that He loves to see us using it. Getting healthy can be fun with Jesus girls along on our ride! Livin in his powah!

  6. Looking at #4 in the personal reflections I’ve been tempted the most by boasting. Although food cravings have been there I praise God that in the last three weeks I’ve become the girl that craves steamed foods! Boasting is a frequent temptation and I’ll need the same mindset I’m adopting with food.

I’m thankful for this group and study!

  7. I FINALLY found this book at a local store:) It just so happens that I went to pick up my new Bible tonight and they had just rec’d 11 copies. YAY! I am so excited to participate in this study. God has called me to seek him fiercely and this study is perfect! Thank you for creating this opportunity:)

  8. Cindy Martin says:

  9. I am very excited about this study. We have formed a group at church, and will be doing it together. I have order the Cd’s and study guide but have not yet received them…can’t wait to fully get started, love the webcasts and all the support here and on Lysa and shecooks pages…although I haven’t seen a great change in my eating habits yet…I am very aware, difinately making a plan, and becoming much closer to God through my spiritual work. Also the new connections I am making at church. I send daily inspirations to my sisters at the church, and getting great feed back from them as well! We are all so thrilled to be making this journey!

  10. Bernadette says:

    Hi Melissa,
Love your uipbeat attitude and videos. Unfortunately I have not received my book yet … I’m following the Monday night web casts and I wonder if your videos will be available for awhile so I can follow along when I get my materials? Thanks for hosting this online study. I’m a working mom and I don’t get to participate in many group bible studies do to scheduling!
    God Bless You,

  11. Melissa,
I just got my book today so I am going to try and catch up but by just reading the introduction I am seeing there are going to be so many great things in this book I might just take my time. Or I could go ahead and catch up than at the end go back and do it again from the begining.
Thank you for doing this and I am praising God for an oppertunity to go deeper
with him and make him my craving.

  12. Sandi Sherlin says:
