Temptation. It’s everywhere. Especially if you are watching what you eat.

I don’t know about you, but I notice it much more now than at the beginning of this study. At the beginning I felt “da powahhh” (the power for those who are just joining us) and I felt so strong and motivated that it seemed nothing could stop me. I was focused and didn’t experience set backs. And I was surprised by this.

Now in the 6th and final week of MTC study, I thought I’d be pretty good at this resisting temptation and being strong. What I’ve found is that it is more of a struggle than ever. I have to focus on keeping my focus. I have to be super intentional on keeping my guard up. And 1 Corinthians 10:13 has become one of my favorite verses:

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (NIV)

I (and hopefully you too) cling to the TRUTH that God is faithful…He will provide a way out.  And for me, many times that way out is my own choice to eat something else or just walk away. Rely on God. Rely on my decisions to know what is beneficial to me and what is not. And just do it.

This week we are re-affirming that:

Our journey with Jesus lasts.  Diets don’t.

When we stand on the scale and see our goal weight staring back at us, we’re always just one choice away from reversing all the progress we’ve made.

Victory isn’t a place we arrive at and then relax.

We maintain victories with each next choice.

Some actions are not sinful in themselves, but they are not appropriate because they can control our lives and lead us away from God.

Focusing on what we are giving up will make us feel constantly deprived.

Courage fills my heart, mind, and soul with everything alive and possible and invigorating.

One of the richest lessons has been realizing the amount of mental and spiritual energy I wasted for years just wishing things would change.  All the while beating myself up for not having he discipline to make those changes.

Live as an overcomer not a victim.

My healthy choices makes me feel empowered not deprived.

Whether we are on the path toward victory or defeat is determined by the very next choice we make.

It is my prayer that you are on the path towards victory.

I know this is the last week of study. But we are just beginning our journey. And let me tell you, whether you have surpassed your expectations or you feel like you’ve let yourself down, it’s not too late. This is the beginning. We are on a journey to crave God more than food. For many that may take practice. Just don’t let Satan whisper the words of discouragement to you. No no no.  Because our word this week is COURAGEOUS. Keep your courage. No matter what has happened so far, Be strong and courageous. (Joshua 1:9)

One way to keep your courage and stay strong is to keep growing and learning God’s Word and applying it to your life. 1. Thank you for your time with this study. I am looking for my courage this week….this month…this day!! Looking forward to the next study with you!

  2. I am not giving up! Based on my past experiences, this is Courageous all by itself!

  3. I feel courageous these days because I know God is my strength and my power to make it through every day life. Healthy eating choices, battles with depression, just an overwhelming feeling from everyday life…all of these things don’t feel so bad when I remember that I don’t have to rely on myself. I have God’s strength to help me through!

  4. I am not a naturally courageous person. Any courage I am blessed with comes completely through God’s amazing grace. This is my first time reading your blog, but it certainly won’t be my last. I am so enjoying MTC, and I am blessed to be walking through this journey with two of my sisters in Christ. Thank you for your ministry. May God continue to glorify Himself through His people!

  5. Andrea Stanley says:

What I am realizing is that I am having to dig deeper!!! It is taking tons of courage to do this. I know GOD is leading me to do this with HIM by my side!!! Thank goodness he is with me, becuase this is going to be a long journey. But the outcome is going to be great!!! Thanks for the study’s!

  6. I didn’t used to have much courage, but through Christ I can do all things. I have been courageous lately by doing things completely out of the box for me. God is GOOD!!

  7. I am finding courage through God’s word. I still have a long way to go and some days are a real struggle. I just have to remember “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength”.

  8. The MTC Study has been such a tremendous blessing to me. I’ve had to make lots of changes in my thinking and eating habits but God has been so faithful to provide me with the courage to make those changes. When the study started I began walking 15 minutes a day. Praise God I’m up to 55 minutes a day now!! God has indeed given me the strength and courage to make that change!

  9. MTC has given me courage I didn’t know I had. I am sharing ideas from the study with my co-workers and encouraging them to make healthy choices. I also joined an exercise class for the first time in my life at age 42 and I absolutely love it. I was always too embarassed to exercise in public but have learned we are all there for the same reason. Thanks so much for this bible study. I look forward to doing many more!

  10. God is so faithful! Be encouraged and be blessed!

  11. Today I felt courageous because I am chose to go for a walk when I didn’t feel like it.

  12. I’m courageous because I took a step towards God and God meets me right where I am. I’m courageous by joining something new and different for me like this online bible study – being committed to complete the 6 week study. I am courageous!

  13. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog posts even though I need to catch up on the study due to receiving my book later and due to a business trip to California. Thanks for encouraging us each week. It means so much — all of the time you put into this for all of “us.”:)

  14. Lori. Harvey says:

This study helps me be courageous. Thanks!

  15. I am not feeling courageous today. I am so grateful that my Lord has provided a way for me to overcome temptation. I just need to remember to turn to Him when I am tempted. Thank you Melissa for the reminder.

  16. I am not always courageous, but I felt this way when I gave up drinking pop and caffeine. Empowered. Now if I could just be courageous with other sweets. ; )

  17. I am courageous because I have decided that any “unhealthy” food will be on my tastebuds for a few fleeting seconds but will literally “live” on my body for weeks or even months!! My conscience but courageous decision is to say NO, after all, it could not possibly taste that good (regardless what the package or advertisers say ) :)

  18. Oh dear sisters, Satan whispers to me all the time, trying to lead me off course, stealing my confidence, telling me that it doesn’t matter…and that’s when I know that he’s scared because I’m on to something BIG! Something that gives him less ground in my life and more to God, who designed me with love and FOR more than buying a pack of lies! This journey is a matter of life and death for me – heart disease is rampant in my family and if I want to live to see my 3 year old daughter get married some day, I’ve got to lean fully into God’s power and be different. My dream? To be a grandma some day! And to play with my daughter’s children and teach them, too, about how much God loves them. With God’s grace, I am fighting the good fight…and my prayer is that you are, too!

Peace, grace and heaps of love to you all,

  19. Shellie Arndts says:

I feel courageous when I am able to stand up for what I believe in. I try to remember what the Word says about how we can do all things through Christ Jesus and also about how if we deny knowing Jesus before men then he will deny knowing us to our heavenly Father. He cared enough about me to give his all so shouldn’t I give my all for him?

  20. Heather Cook says:

Melissa, thank you for this post and your honesty. I am finding it’s harder and more intentional now than at the beginning. Thank you for reminding us to be courageous and that God promised he won’t give us more than we can handle. I keep carrying my bible verses and crying out…I feel Like my spirit is willing but my flesh is weak…but in my weakness He is strong! I can do all things through strengthens me! Daily my kids run around the house saying I got da powaaaaah! I’m telling you I’m going to have to get an embroider to do a couple and I’m sending one your way! Not everything is beneficial! Be string and courageous in the Lord. It is a step by step hour by hour battle, and I must be intentional and truly focused so don’t mess up by habit. I’m also thankful his mercy is new every morning! Thanks for all of you reminders and posts! Thanks for being you! I’m going call you about next study and a prayer! I’m so thankful you don’t even know!
