Do you know what a burpee is?  Until January of this year I did not.

I was on stage with Lysa TerKeurst filming her live webcast for Made to Crave. She asked me to join her so I could talk about the Online Bible Study I was leading for Made to Crave. That was my only reason for being there. Until…

Lysa had a group of people from her boot camp join her for the Made to Crave Challenge. They were challenged to select one healthy change in their lives and make it a discipline for the next six weeks. She asked them, they answered, then she turned the microphone on me. “Melissa, what is your healthy change?” she asked.  “Uhhhh, well I am going to make exercising consistently part of my routine again.”  To which Lysa replied with way too much excitement, “PERFECT! You can join us for boot camp three days a week. You will won’t you?”

Ok, now remember I’m not only caught on the spot, but we are also on LIVE webcast! No retakes or do overs. What else could I say except,  “Sure, I’d love to.”  “Great! We will see you Wednesday and report your progress in a few weeks!”

What in the world had I gotten myself into?

Let me tell you a little about our Body by Buck boot camp.

*It’s the hardest workout I’ve ever done in my life. It changes each time, plenty of variety, hard core, using every muscle in your body, and pushing to the extreme with all kinds of equipment, your own body weight, and cardio to the max. The first time I went, I was exhausted after the first ten minutes and Lysa looked at me and said, “That was just the warm up.” That should have clued me in.

*It’s the most encouraging workout I’ve ever done. Buck and Kelly (our trainers) push us hard, but they are so motivating, encouraging, sweet, and helpful. The others in the class cheer each other on so there is no quitting. Just when you think you can take no more, Kristi will shout from the other side of the room, “Come on Melissa, you can do it…you can do anything for 15 seconds…we got this!”

*It’s early in the morning. It starts at 5:30 am. That’s all I’ll say about that.

*It’s something I thought I’d do for a little bit, to fulfill my commitment to Lysa, then quit. No way. I’m in it for the long haul. It has become an important part of my life: physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. And because I know there’s a group waiting on me to show up, I’m going to go. When someone isn’t there, we really miss them.

*I’ve seen improvement in my performance. I still feel like I’m going to die with each workout. During the workout, I admit, I have said the words, “I can’t do this.”  But I have found out that I can. And I’m much better than I was 4 months ago.

*There are all shapes and sizes in our class. Anyone can do boot camp. There are modifications for each exercise. No excuses. I injured my knee falling off of my high heels a few weeks ago. My first thought was, “Oh, now I can’t do boot camp.” WRONG. Modifications were made, I worked out just as hard, and now my knee is all back to normal. (no comment about the falling off high heels please)

*Our least favorite word in boot camp is burpee. Burpees don’t look so hard to watch someone else do them. Take my word for it. They are hard. Try for yourself. (If you can’t see the video below, click here.)

The only difference between my burpee and this girl in the video is I don’t do that split jump, I just jump straight up. Also, I go all the way to the ground on my belly when I go down. Push up occasionally. Go ahead and try them. Have fun :)

*Our favorite words in boot camp are “1,2,3…BOOTY CAMP!” Because that signifies the end of class. That’s the call that says, “we did it!”  “we rock!”   “we are changing our bodies!”  “we are strong and healthy!”

Are you doing anything to keep yourself fit?

Staying in God’s Word? Please share in the comment section of this blog, your one healthy choice or what you are doing to keep fit physically and spiritually. I’ll share mine too!

We Got Da Powahhh! (My MTC gals know exactly what that means!)

Love y’all!

  1. Since exercise has become a part of my life, I now have a new healthy choice. I met with Buck this morning to discuss it so I would be committed and I knew by telling my boot camp leaders, it would hold me accountable. I am going to start eating healthy. I’m going to be aware of everything that goes in my mouth. Lean proteins, healthy fats, lots of veggies, some fruit. Pray for me please. I will miss my bi-weekly Chic-Fil-A biscuit, but the truth is, I’m overweight and that’s not good.

Spiritually, I begin my day with a devotion and I stay involved in Bible study. Truth is, I lead Online Bible Studies partly to keep myself in the Word. I talk to God a lot, text verses to my kids daily, and pray for others. I try to incorporate God’s Word into a lot of the way I encourage others. Not always, but when I can.

    • Melissa, I would love to share AdvoCare nutrition with you to include in with the wonderful healthy choices you are making:)! It has been life changing for my husband and myself. Check it out if you are interested! Our website is

Thank you for all of your encouragement! I am so thankful God led me to your Bible studies!

I so dislike burpees! My big exercise kick right now is Turbo Fire! Definitely keeps me moving! I wasn’t able to do the Made to Crave Bible study, but I am reading the book right now and all I can say is wow! I have been on this weight loss journey for almost 5 years. I’ve lost 50 pounds, but I’m struggling with those last 10 pounds (who doesn’t right?). I know that exercise is a big reason why I haven’t gained the weight back. Now, I’m just trying to turn my focus away from the unhealthier foods (I still believe in everything in moderation) and turn that focus towards God.

    • Kellie,
So glad you are reading Made to Crave now! And congrats on the big weight loss! That’s great! “Everything is permissible, but not beneficial.” That sticks with me!

  3. Mary Sawyer says:

I am in awe that you exercise at 5:30 am, Melissa!
I have been paying more attention to my diet lately, not so much as to weight gained or lost, but how what I eat makes me feel. Sad to say, I have noticed that carbs (like my beloved bagel) make me feel lethargic, groggy and foggy-headed. They zap any energy I have. My newest health habit then is to eat more protein; it really DOES make a difference for me in how I feel. My waistline is losing some of the mid-life pudge too, which is a great bonus. I finally have found a brand of protein shake that doesn’t make me gag (BSN Dessert – Chocolate Fudge); made in a blender with ice and vanilla almond milk (which is lower carb than cow’s milk), it tastes delicious so it my sweet treat too! I have also learned to eat raw almonds when I do eat carbs to curb the carbs effects on my blood sugar. Anyway, hope others share their new health habits too!

  4. I have already signed up for the I Used To Be So Organized Bible study. Will I be entered to win the organizational kit? I could most certainly use it. I read what was in it and got excited. :)

I also did Made to Crave with you. I’m still going to the gym most days a week. I do a lot of running around right now since my nieces and nephews are playing ball. However, I’ve lost 15 pounds and have gotten up to 12 minutes on a treadmill. I started out at 3 minutes and a slower pace. Definitely excited about the changes. 60 more pounds to go!

    • Kasey,
Yes you are entered to win the Organizational Kit!

Good for you on your continued exercise! 15 pound loss is terrific! Try picking up a 15 pound weight just to see how much that is!

I’m so glad you will be doing the next study with me!

  5. I participated in your online “Made To Crave” study. I pledged at the beginning of the year that I would focus on being “healthier.” I wasn’t going to go on a “diet” but I would watch what I was eating and make better choice and smaller portions. I also made a commitment to exercise – maybe not everyday – but I would do something to move my body regularly. I idea was that I would focus on “healthier” rather than perfect. Well we are now close to 6 months into my “healthier” pledge, and I’ve lost 20 lbs. I exercise 5-6, sometimes 7 days a week. I’m eating better, not always, but better than I was – less fast food, fries, no soda! But my biggest accomplishment is at the end of February I started the Couch to 5K training program. I did all my training runs on a treadmill because I was so worried I would embarrass my self, or look ridiculous trying to run at my size. Ten days ago I moved my training to outside, and I am now running almost 3 miles – close to a 5K! And I actually look forward to my runs – 3 days a week! While I’m still disappointed I haven’t lost more on the scale, I have dropped almost 2 sizes in clothing. As another part of my “healthier” pledge, I wanted to make sure that I worked on my mental health by doing things that help my creative and spiritual side. I’ve done a couple of Bible studies, I’ve joined an online small group for Pastor’s Wives through Leading & Loving It (thanks to Lysa TerKerst for the recommendation in a Tweet), and I’m taking watercolor classes. I’m spending more time writing poetry and working on papercrafts such as card making and scrapbooking.

    • Rock on Dolli!!!! Look at you! You are doing fabulous!!!! So proud of you girl, you inspire me!

    • Mary Lynn Tassotto says:

Dolli! I just graduated from “couch to 5K” today! It is a fantastic program :) Congratulations on your success and for keeping with it!!!
      Blessings, Mary Lynn

  6. Colleen Orozco says:

I am living out of a suitcase (10 months now) on assignment by God in Hawaii
and living by faith so the weight gain is not easy and I need help
    and encouragement to push thru…

    • Colleen,
Just don’t ever give up. It must be stressful living out of a suitcase. Rely on God and His promises for you to get your through. Claim His Word for you and your circumstances. With Him, you can do this.

    • Joan Vanterpool says:

where in hawaii are you at, Colleen? I live on the island of Oahu.

  7. Just started a no wheat eating shift on advise of my doc… Apparently this bonified biscuit lovin gal is highly wheat sensitive. Wheat is in about as many foods as sugar and high fructose corn syrup… which I’ve also cut WAY back on. I’m only one week into the wheat free. I miss my chic-fil-e biscuits too! I think my version of heaven is a free for all on those… and vanilla ice cream! Cant wait till I stop craving what is so bad for my health. Please Pray! I have been ill for too long & I need to live a healthier life! P.S. Two good books on the subject are Wheat Belly & The Primal Blueprint 21 day Total Body Transition. Both are secular, but great resources for understanding the nutritional science behind cutting high fructose corn syryp, sugar, & wheat out of the diet in order to eat more like God designed us to for optimal health.

    • stephanie says:

I began wheat-free eating one year ago, not only do I physically feel much better, but I’ve lost 33 lbs, and I have only had one sinus infection when I normally have about 6/year. Wheat free is hard because it is so commonly used as a binding agent. It requires a little more reading of labels. Another thing to watch is the amount of sugar in the gluten free items. I pretty much stick with whole foods and stay away from even gluten free breads (because of the higher sugar). Prayers for blessings for you.

      • Great to read about others going wheat free for health reasons and about the relief from sinus infections – I have been thinking of trying this way of eating and now I am especially encouraged because of the relief from sinus infections. I have to try this!! I have a huge sweet tooth so am hoping this might also be less of a problem too. Anyone have any interesting information on how to find relief from a seeming ‘sugar addiction’ this too?
I love made to crave……have experienced success but have been lazy with it of late….need to get back on track.

  8. Kristina says:

Physically…I quit my job of 15 years to eliminate the stress in my life. That has done amazing things for me! I’m riding my bicycle 3 to 5 miles a day right now as well as walking 2 miles with a friend. I have knee and back troubles so I’m hoping to lose the middle section and strengthen my back and ab muscles.

Spiritually…I’m engaged in at least one bible study at a time to keep me in His word though I really want to read the entire bible so I have signed up with a group to read through the bible in 90 days over the summer. My two daughters (ages 9 & 11) are going to do it with me. I’m very excited!

Thank you for all that you do Melissa! You’re an inspiration and I’m so glad I can be a part of your online studies. God bless!

  9. Sarah Rose says:

The Made to Crave Bible Study was LIFE CHANGING for me. It pulled me back into the embrace of God. It gave me the POW-AH to commit to eating healthy and exercising. Since January, I’ve lost 35 pounds. I’m writing a blog about my journey. I’m growing more spiritually than I ever could imagine. I’m connected in with a bootcamp that I do online where I am doing my own version of “burpees” (except they call them body builders). And, because Made to Crave changed my life so much, I’m actually leading a MTC Bible Study at my home on Mondays throughout the summer! It’s an exciting time in my life! I’m so thankful for you, Melissa, and for Lysa. Without you women, I would still be stuck circling the mountain, and I would never have heard, “Go NORTH!”

    • Mary Lynn Tassotto says:

Sarah – your story is so much like mine! I’m leading a MTC study at my church starting next week! I’ll pray for you and the women that God brings to your study – He is doing great things through this study!

  10. Melissa –

I have just started going to Zumba twice a week and walking 1.5 miles twice a week. I have not been very good about exercising over the years, but I have found that Zumba is really fun! And I have a good friend who goes as well, so that helps keep me motivated. I have only been to 2 Zumba classes so far, but I am going tonight and will keep going! I have also started limiting my calories and trying to eat more healthy. I have lost 5lbs so far in my journey. I have a ways to go, but I am glad that I am actually getting out there and doing something!!

Good for you for sticking with boot camp!

  11. Lori McKinney says:

I’m with you Melissa, never heard of a burpee until this winter when I started to work out and study Made to Crave with you! I still hate ’em, but I do ’em when my trainer puts them in the circuits. The best inspiration for me at those times is that the stuff that’s easy for me isn’t doing me near as much good! I have stayed on track with nutrition and exercise and my word for 2012 is STRONG!!!

  12. Cindy F. says:

I wish I could say my habits have changed but I am attempting to get back on track. I hope to be have better results the next time you check in. Thanks for the encouragement.

  13. Jessica says:

The past 5 almost 6 months have gone by in a flash with so much happening. I am so thankful I started off the year with this Bible study, I still pick up my book from time to time and read the notes I made as I went thru it. I have lost about 28 lbs since the beginning of the year and hope to keep going. I am truly amazed some days that I have gone so long with NO processed sugars. I still crave chocolate and ice cream (almost daily) but so thankful in my weakness He is made strong. Thank you so much for the encouragement! You are a blessing!!!

  14. I am not where I want to be but I am not where I was prior to the Made to Crave study. Still a work in progress!!

  15. We started the Made to Crave study in January, coinciding with your webcast. TONIGHT we are starting “How to be More than just a Good Bible Study Girl.” But to answer your question about whether we have maintained healthy lifestyle changes….We began an exercise group at our church, also in January. We have continued it and meet three nights a week. We use a walking program that is suitable for all ages. We have a great time and the relationships that have developed have strengthened us as a group.

  16. Jennifer B. says:

Since MTC, I have made healthy food choices and gotten my weight down some. However with all that new healthyness and a closer relationship with God, I have had prayers anwsered that I never thought i’d see happen. In my pre-teens I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and told that having children naturally would be all but impossible. However with MTC I got back to heart of beliveing that i’m worth it all and got closer to God. I was able to concieve naturally with my husband and we are expecting our first child in October! Praise God! And with all those healthy food decisions, eating healthy for the baby has been so much easier as well.

  17. Linda Schuhmacher says:

    Hi Melissa,
Perfect timing to touch base…Things have been crazy at our home & our workout & my eating has taken a backseat lately. My Hubby now has a new job….well I should say just opened his own new business. Our plan was to start getting up at 5 & be at the Y at 5:30. Just say one day is all we made. We have decided untill school is out a little over 2 weeks, we will do evenings. But I rather do it in the AM and I feel 10 times better. My eating hasn’t been the grandest & I am planning to get back on track with that as well. Thank you for knowing I needed the motivation and accountablilty. :) Must be the day for you as today your smiling face came out of my mailbox! I want to congratulate you on your progress!!!! Way to go…You certainly have the power.
One last thing I know you are busy, doing all the great things God has given you in life to do….but would you consider being an accountability person to me?? I know we are miles apart. But possible we could e-mail or Skype? Let me know your thoughts. I can be reached at the above e-mail. Thanks again Melissa!!!!

  18. Carolyn says:

Thank you so much for checking in! Well, since reading Made to Crave, I found out I am expecting! This book has really changed me and I did not realize how much until this pregnancy. I am really eating well and taking care of myself. No, I am not perfect, but compared to prior pregnancies this one is so much healthier-both physically and spiritually. It is sometimes a daily struggle to get through the day especially with those lovely hormonal cravings, but I know I can do it! 24 more weeks to go! Now, I can look forward to a healthy life with my new baby.

  19. Hi Melissa,
I participated in the last Made to Crave online study group and it helped me a lot to be more disciplined and focused on my weight loss journey and my journey with the Lord. I was super busy with school and work, but I managed to read the book on my iPad while I was working out on the elliptical or the treadmill. When I felt I couldn’t do it anymore, I pictured Jesus as my personal trainer and that was very helpful to keep me going.
My husband was my partner in this journey too, so we also started counting calories at and organizing better with our meals.
In total we lost 16 pounds, but then got undisciplined again and just this week we started a new program of running for beginners. I like to participate in my local AIDSWalk every year, and my goal is to raise money for my first 10K run this October.
As Lora said above, I’m not where I want yet, but I’m in a better, stronger position now, and I know that a real change is possible!
    Thank you!

  20. I did the Made to Crave study with you. I’m still doing well on the lifestyle changes! I’ve lost almost 50 pounds, so I’m over half way there. I admire you for having the energy and motivation to do the boot camp!

  21. I have dropped over 5 pounds, a whole dress size and I am eating so much better, I bought a pedometer, a Fitbit. LOVE IT Best money I ever spent on my health. It tracks my steps and downloads my daily stats to my computer. all done wireless, but charges on my computer as well, and it can be set up to go to your phone even. They sell them on line or at Target and best buy, I DO NOT work for them, but I should be paid to because I recommend this tool to everyone! So it keeps me on track, and moving my booty every day. I try to do 25 flights of stairs and 10,000 miles a day, many days I don’t make it, but I do more than before, so it is a healthy lifestyle change for me. And it tracks calories burned by activity, another eye opener, when you move you burn! And I have asked God to keep me on track and that helps just as much! I want to lose another 5 pounds, if I do great, but more important I am taking care of me and asking God to be my guide. Looking forward to the next study with Lysa (got to preview read, loved it!) and the next one this summer too. Loved the last one as well! Thanks Melissa!

  22. Oh Man, I meant 10,000 STEPS a day, not miles! LOL, I am blonde but not that ditsy! Sorry Melissa!

  23. Linda Smith says:

    Hi Melissa and all:

I did MTC in 2011 and had such great success, I even made a You Tube video (Linda Smith-Made to Crave). I was able to lose 30 pounds and felt great! More importantly, I grew closer to the Lord and let Him help me in an area of such constant struggle. Well, I’m glad I made the video last summer because it is a constant reminder to me (personally) of what God did in my life last year! This year, I’ve been struggling with food again after my mother passed away suddenly! The MTC principles have stuck and I’m trying to go to God for comfort instead of food when I’m feeling overwhelmed. Keeping a regular exercise routine has definitely helped as well!

  24. I did the made to crave with you, and unfortunately I am going the wrong way. :( I have gained about 10 pounds since January. I know exactly why, but I can’t seem to stop. I am dealing with all kinds of emotional (marriage) issues and food is my comfort. I started a new job working in a school cafeteria that has also brought on stress. I make sure to have my quiet time everyday. I did the An Untroubled Heart Study with you as well. It was a great study, but I still feel very stuck in my situation. Please pray for me. I also have plans to do the next study. Since starting this new job, (I was a stay at home mom before) my organization has completely disappeared (another stresser for me). I simple can’t get it all done. :( I am looking forward to the next study. :) Also, school is almost out so I am looking forward to having the summer off. :) I have a 7 year old daughter, and I desperately want to be a better mom to her. I want to be a better example and not have her ask, “Mom, why do you look so sad.” Please remember me in your prayers. The one thing I have stuck with for my health is Zumba. I do Zumba 2 to 3 times a week and know if it wasn’t for that I would probably have gained more than 10 pounds. Thank you for all that you do, Melissa. I pray God continues to bless your ministry. :)

  25. I joined Weight Watchers & my first week I lost 3.4 lbs & I have also done a couple more online studies & has changed my life for the good. Thank you for all your positive words of encourgement.

  26. Chelle Renee says:

Well, I am excited to say that I have lost 38lbs. While and since I did the MTC bible study. The little changes that I have made have paid off big time. Tonight I am starting a new Excersise Routine. I already participate in Aqua Zumba. I am going to start working out at the pool where I live. Taking a big step because I will be working out by myself and where others will be able to see me. I am praying that people will be inspired at the apartments and join me.

  27. Loving the book made to crave. I have saved all my notes and going to read it again. Finally, grasping the concept that food is not my helper. (the bad foods anyway) Also I have signed up for the organization study and have purchased the book. Tired of chaos in my life and realizing that it’s taking time away from what I need to be doing- studying the word! Thanks!

  28. Melissa, thank you for checking in with us on our eating journey. So very thoughtful. I read Made to Crave with you the second time around. It was such a blessing. In the middle of that study I joined a weight loss group at my church to help me with some accountability. It was a great help. Nothing like stepping on a scale for someone to see that will motivate. I lost 17 lbs over a 12 week time period. I was pleased. I am realizing how important it is for me to write my food down. I know that in the book Lysa talked about planning our food. I was resistant to that for some reason. I think it was something about control. Hmmmmmm… but now it seems like a wise thing to do. It is so time consuming to have to write everything down. I do it about half the time. I have increased my exercise from 2 to 4 days. I am hoping this will help me get the rest of my weight off. (12 lbs.) I stick to a 1200 calorie diet. I am learning to make some food decisions for life. I no longer drink pop. It was really more of a habit than anything. I don’t even miss it and I prefer WATER!!! I find that amazing! I started telling myself that it is my beverage of choice and saying how much I love that cool glass of water. It was amazing how I believe that now. Since it is summer my big downfall is ice cream!! I think this is going to be harder. I really do miss eating ice cream. I told myself that I would no longer eat ice cream at home but since my husband enjoys stopping for ice cream when we are traveling I know that I will then have some ice cream. I least I won’t binge eat it.
As for where I am at spiritually, I was recently challenged by a friend to read Psalm 27 each morning as an introduction to my prayer time. I have always struggled with consistency in my quiet times. Ps. 27 is a psalm that I have taken as a life chapter. She is holding me accountable to this discipline and I have to say it is really working and helping me stay close to God. Thanks again Melissa for checking in with us. This has really served as a way for me to evaluate where I am at and continue to relinquish my desire for food with a desire to have a closer walk with God. Blessings to you!!

  29. Charlotte Askew says:

    Hi Melissa,
I did both of the MTC Bible Studies with you and learned even more the second ime. I have strugged with weight for 30+ years. The study inspired me to presevere and not give up. I am 67 and have degenerative disc disease along with a right hip that has the blood supply cut off, BUT, i will not give up or give in. I have had some setbacks but my comeback is stronger than my setback. I eat healthy most of the time and walk most every day along with this i include hand weights for strength.
i signed up for the next study. Living on a very tight fixed income will prevent me from purchasing the book right now but i will join in anyway.

PS i passed my MTC book onto my sister to help encourage her in her jouney
You rock with the boot camp dedication. There is lots of websites that have recipes for healthy, delicious recipez

  30. Lucille Viele says:

The Made to Crave bible study was an inspirational live changing, God strengthening event for me!!! Everytime I take a bite of food, I always hear, “do you love food or God more?” This keeps me inline and on track! God has to come first! It has been since October since I have had anything with suguar or artificial sweetener, and can happily say God is faithful and does reward those who are faithful….38 pounds gone! Now to just work on the exercise aspect of healthier living or as I like to remind myself, ‘honoring God with my body” Thanks a ton for delievering this bible study!!!
    hugs and love!

  31. Hey, Melissa,

I did MTC the first time around with you. Since then I gained weight back, but have now lost all of that + 5. I’m doing some kind of hard exercise every day M-F and weekends when possible, and I’ve started running, too. I always wanted to but never thought I could. Ultimately, I’m having lots of trouble losing the last 6 pounds that I want to lose, and I’m chocolate is still a problem for me, but it’s easier to say ‘no’ to other bad things. The most exciting thing to me, though, is that clothes are fitting differently. That crazy-fitting Women’s Wellness Weekend t-shirt finally fits! :-)

  32. I’m doing real great! I still have that Empowered flyer on my fridge, and I have 1 Corinthians 10:23 written on it in glittery blue ink. =) I’ve been doing intense exercising, and plan to continue improving! I’ve definitely slimmed down, and it’s so cool when I pray to God to help me withstand temptation and He does!!! I took pictures of those statements that were at the back of the book, and they’re on my phone so I can look at them anytime I’m weak. Thanks so much for leading that study!

  33. Well, I did finish Made to Crave, and I loved it. So much so that I am planning on doing this study with some women in my church. I am planning to lead it.

I think what struck me was that I discovered it was not about food for me. It was about other cravings I struggle with. Yes, I loved all the healthy eating and lifestyle tips, but when I discovered that I was feeding my body with other things to fill me up instead of God, it really made a difference.

  34. I am going to try to start walking at least 3 mornings a week starting the first week in June. It seems like I begin this challenge to exercise and then I get so busy with life, that I never find time to fit it in to my schedule. I really have no excuse to not exercise except I just recently left the work force and am staying home, and I basically cannot get myself on a schedule. When I worked outside of the home, it was easier to keep the house clean because nobody was home. LOL. Now that I am home most of the time, my husband comes home for lunch everyday so lunch is cooked, which requires more cleanup etc since we neither one came home for lunch before. Life just overtakes sometimes and I am just learning to get my life on a schedule. I am thankful for God providing the opportunity for me to be home at least for now. I am not sure how long I will be out of the work force but for now, I am extremely happy. Now, to find time to exercise and eat healthier. I would like to do the Made to Crave bible study but I missed that one. Sounds like it was awesome.

  35. Mary Lynn Tassotto says:

God has used the Made To Crave study to do miracles in my life!! I am down 50(!) pounds, today I ran 5 km for the first time ever, and next week I will begin leading ~25 women on the MTC journey at my church! God gets ALL the glory… without His strength, without His word, without His promises, and without the power of the Holy Spirit, none of this would be possible!!! Praise the Lord! For I can do ALL things through Christ who gives me strength! ♥

  36. Virginia says:

I have done well..down 30 lbs. I read Made to Crave which motivated me to love God more then food. It has been a growing experience with struggles of course but the difference has been not to hate myself if I enjoy a dessert. or chips etc. I have learned it’s about portion control. Yes I count out the chips or I buy Special K chips, you can have 27! I buy things already in portions. I enjoy fruit and veges and yogurt dressings which are fabulous. I walk every day for about 2 miles and have added a few toning exercises. God is working in my life, I want to exhibit self control in my walk with Jesus. I have decided not to be in a hurry, I started Jan 8th. So I feel blessed and I feel better about me and look forward to a few months or years from now, a healthier woman who loves God more then food.

  37. Jane Blair says:

I started MTC in October and have lost 56 pounds so far, still a long way to go. I am in Northern Ireland so only back up I have is my books, I hace MTC and MTC devotional on my Kindle which is the first thing I listen to when I wake up each morning. God is so good and has been faithful to me I have maybe another 100 lbs to lose but I know He will be there holding my hand and encouraging all the way. My exercise is slow still as I still weigh over 300 lbs but I do walking a lot and care for 5 little ones each day and they keep me active. Hoping to swim and walk more now the Summer is coming. I am 54 years old and my only wish is that I had done this years ago. God bless you richly. xx

  38. I own a CrossFit….and sadly? I have let the business aspect take priority to my time alone with God. Can I tell you how encouraging it is to read the word burpee?! and the double affirmation of Lisa’s Made to Crave book (which completely changed my outlook on food/nourishment)?
God is showing me that I can still find Him with YOU gals. can’t wait.
    former lurker, now participant!

  39. I had not weighed myself in awhile, so I did yesterday and am happy to report the pounds I lost during MTC are still off!! 😀

I did the MTC study with a friend last year, but REALLY learned more through your online study. The most important thing for me since your MTC study is that I’ve remained in His Word and am continuing to grow in my Christian walk.

I have degenerative disc disease and severe osteoarthritis in my spine, so my days of booty camp are over…but…MTC started me back exercising! Pain had stopped me from exercising and being able to do things I once loved to do, but I now go to the YMCA 3-5 times a week. I walk for as long as I can and lift weights to work on my arms, legs and core.

My goal now is to get back on a healthy eating plan. We have included more fiber, fruits, veggies and fish in our diet now (changing my husband’s eating, too, of course! ), but my goal this summer is to really work on portion control.

  40. Good Morning,Melissa
I have so enjoyed the Made to Crave study,we did it with a ladies group at church, along with Lysa DVD set and I also did it with you online. It was so eye opening at the way we need to Crave God,also. Combining Bible study with weight loss is so inspiring, uplifting, and personal. I have struggled with weight loss all my life but now that Iam 61 its even harder. I have RA and fibromylia, and extremely bad back. So each step I take is a painful one,but I am trying to reach a goal that is along way off,but with God’s help I pray I finally someday can reach the goal and make Made To Crave,a life choice. Thank-you for sharing your heart,I appreciate your honesty, To be able to be part of an excerise group would be so helpful, share the ruff spots with people who care.
Keep up the good work, that God has allowed you to share with others. God Bless!! It would be so wonderful to receive a book I did sign up for the next class.
    Cant wait!!!!!

  41. I did your first Made to Crave bible study and have since lost 25 lbs. I have been able to keep it off by being faithful every week to my WW meetings and exercising at home with some great DVDs (burpees are a part of them too – hate them). I did your bible study again this year to keep God front and center in this journey. It really helped me. I was able to go back and read my journal from the 1st time and compare how my mind has shifted in a years time. My 50th birthday is tomorrow and I feel better than I have in YEARS. I still have the conference calls on my ipod and listen when I need encouragement. Keeping the weight off can be harder than losing it at times. Thanks so much Melissa for what you do!

  42. Morning all my MTC sister’s. Through the study I grew to overcome things from my past that I needed to overcome so that I could move forward. I’m not at my goal weight but I’m closer than I was 3 years ago. If I get off the meal plan I catch myself and react. As my busy schedule has not allowed me to excersise like I should, I have started cutting back on my work schedule, for my employer is not my provider but my Heavenly Father is, so now I am planning to run a 5k in the fall for the fight against cancer. So thank you all that prayed for me for I am walking this journey in the strength of Jesus Christ and with Him all things are possible.

  43. Jeanie Kelley says:

For me, Made to Crave made all the difference in the world. For some reason with taking this study, I began losing weight for no reason. I was not sick or anything like that, but was losing. God had put on my heart minus the televisions deciding to brake unexpectedly, that I was watching way too much TV. When I stopped the TV viewing I began the weight loss and still no TV. Well we do have TV, but we do not watch regular TV, we watch DVD’s and videos. I am happy and content with not watching it and it has gotten our family back together and we are spending more time with one another and not in front of “the tube” Thanks for a wonderful study.

  44. Mary Beth Williams says:

Definitely having ups and downs…but keep coming back to the truths and principles we learned! We are worth it and I am having my first grandchild in August (a girl!!) and I want to be able to keep up with her for a long time. I will keep on making daily choices that lead me in the right direction, and when I fall back…I will come back! “I can do ALL things, through Christ who gives me strength.” Phil. 4:13 Also love (and have posted on my computer monitor at work) Ps. 37:23-24 (NASB) ” The steps of Mary Beth are established by the Lord, and He delights in Mary Beth’s way. When Mary Beth falls, Mary Beth will not be hurled headlong, because the Lord is the One who holds Mary Beths hand.” Try putting your name in! There is power in God’s Word! Hugs to all…

  45. Cindy Gilbert says:

Made to Crave has changed my life! I am reading through it for the second time. It has helped me to understand my emotional eating patterns. Empowering me to choose to change my focus during stressful times. I don’t have this down perfect, but I am shifting from comfort in food to resting in God! So very thankful for this study! I have lost 15 lbs…half way to my goal! :) Healthy eating and walking as often as I can are changes that will remain in place! When people ask…I am quick to share…Made to Crave is the answer! It’s a lifestyle, not a diet. Thanks for your commitment to sharing the truth of this study.

  46. Lisa Cervera says:

    Hi, Melissa.
I read Made to Crave, watched most of the DVDs and followed along with your online study. I have also recommended it to so many of my friends, I have lost count! I have lost 21 pounds, I’m exercising consistently and I feel absolutely great! I just do my treadmill in the basement and also do “Faithful Workouts,” a Christian exercise show on the NRB network about 5 times a week. Spiritually, I feel much stronger and closer to the Lord. I am very grateful to God for Made to Crave and the opportunity to connect with other women walking the same road!
I was actually looking recently to see if there were any online message boards on Made to Crave still active.
    God bless you!

Trying to cut sugar out of my diet ~ ugh! I am addicted!
I have REALLY bad headaches while trying to get away from sugar. Any tips?

  48. Hello Melissa and everyone,
I had been in a car accident and wasn’t able to do any exercise during this study. I absolutely loved the study! It was such an eye-opener. I did start watching what I ate and put a check on my portion sizes and when I ate. I decreased the amount of food due to having to lay around on meds all day. I did have to cut out my sugar consumption because it was an obsession with me. It was soooo hard to do at first and I still miss it but it has paid off. I started being able to walk my dog after several months of not being able to. We walk almost every day and our routes change and get longer each day. I am happy to say that with eating less, eating healthier, and exercising, I have lost a whole pant size and can fit in my skinny jeans, dresses, and skirts I haven’t been able to wear for at least two years. I also lost two bra sizes and had to buy new ones, but that is a good thing lol. Thank you for educating us and for everyone’s prayers. It was one of the best bible studies I have ever done! So I encourage others that even the least bit you can do, do it. I haven’t stopped eating chips altogether and have occasional fried food but it’s not as enjoyable anymore and my body craves healthier things. As far as the sugar cravings, they have decreased tremendously. The other day I made a homemade strawberry short cake with fresh strawberries from my garden. I couldn’t wait to eat a small piece. When I bit into it, it was soooo sickenly sweet that it made my stomach upset. I couldn’t eat another bite. I was sad but then felt relieved that I used to sit and eat almost a whole cake by myself. I was ecstatic after that realization. I encourage everyone to keep on doing whatever they can. You will get there. Never give up. With God, anything is possible!!!

  49. Beth M. says:

In January I started an accountability/fitness group at church and got back to my healthy eating plan. I have lost another 20 pounds or so for a total of 75 pounds lost. I have really given this struggle up to God and look to Him to provide the strength and POWAH! 20# or so more to go and a lifetime of maintenance, I can do all this through God who gives me the strength.

  50. I am sad to say I let life get in the way of me. I was doing another Bible Study at church at the same time and let this one slide. I feel horrible now. I want to recommit to Made to Crave because I believe in it. School is out for me May 24 (I teach) so I am hoping to begin again and be successful this time. I know this is God’s will for me, just want to be strong enough to not disappoint Him.
