Week 6…Continued

by Melissa Taylor

Last night we had our 2nd conference call in our series of 4 calls. Angie Combs shared with us some useful, helpful, and practical tips for organizing our schedules, shopping, calendars, and every day life and tasks. The Heather Bleier followed up by sharing FABULOUS Spiritual disciplines to help us with our quiet times and daily experiences with God. Really great stuff. I ended with a message on Realistic Expectations and Implementation. If you missed it, I’m sorry :(    But it’s still not too late to sign up and receive the recording info on our first 2 calls plus have access to the next 2 calls in this series! (Next 2 calls:  July 30th with professional organizer Eileen Koch and August 6th with author Glynnis Whitwer)  Sign up here.

This is a Bible study on organization right?  Well let’s just say I’m learning as I go along!  Scheduling a conference call on my first day back at work, one week before Proverbs 31′s biggest conference of the year might not have been such great planning on my part!  The call was great, but I’m swamped at work catching up and getting ready for next week’s conference. Each time I “plan” to write my blog post, something happens that keeps me from doing it.

Fast forward to today….during a 3 hour meeting of the Proverbs 31 staff, I received a text from Heather Bleier. It said, “I know you’re swamped. Would you like me to take the rest of the lessons this week?”  I kid you not, I about cried! I was sitting there thinking…how am I going to do all I have to do?  There is no way.  The Lord sent me a gift today, and He sent her to you too!  Heather Bleier has hijacked my blog and she will lead you through the rest of this week. (God bless her sweet heart!)

So let’s not waste any more time, let’s head over to Heather’s place now! Week 6 is continued there!

It is such a blessing to have such great sisters in Christ. I hope you have a great week and you are well prepared and enjoy the She Speaks conference. God Bless you and thank you so much for doing these awesome studies that allow us to be lead to one another in Christ and to be Blessed with New Friends and Sisters.
Love ~ Lauren

You are such a special lady Nicki. God has truly blessed you with a servant’s heart. If anyway possible and your busy schedule allows, I would love to drive to Detroit and meet you if only for a little time. Have a great trip here in August/September.

Catherine I’d love that! I’ll let you know dates closer to the time. x

I read Heather’s blog. I didn’t see anywhere to post a comment so i came back here. Some very good stuff. The handling papers only once is a great idea and one I strive for. I realize this may not be practical for some people, especially financially, but I ordered a ScanSnap scanner for all of my paperwork, especially loose papers like receipts I need to keep (you know they fade with age)’ insurance policies, investment and banking statements, etc. I have a large filing cabinet stuffed with thing I need/want to keep – being an accountant that’s my nature and am running out of room. The software lets me search for a specific thing by keyword, etc and I can put items in separate virtual folders/file cabinets. I can even save emails to PDF format and search those also. I am very excited to get this. I considered a NeatDesk scanner but everything I read on that was not encouraging. Not cheap but if you could see all the paperwork my hubby and I have you would probably cringe.

And also, if you pay bills online, handling those once should be a snap. Go into your bill pay, schedule the payment (if your bank is gonna mail it allow at least 5 days before the due date) and if it is a bill you have to keep – scan it into your virtual filing cabinet.

Isn’t God great? He knows our needs and will send us Christian friends/helpers if we’re willing to accept their help. Sometimes we just can’t do it all at once (one of the hardest lessons that I’m still learning!)

2nd post – along w/ the organization, i’m reworking our finances and trying to account for everything. the conference calls are $14 – correct? how long are each? trying to figure out if i can afford it (time and $), because it sounds like they’ve been beneficial to all who listen.

I know the first one was 75 minutes. I listen to the tapes version because that is right in the time frame where I’m seeing my hubby off to work and that’s important in my life.

thanks – i might try to scrounge the $ up for the tapes.

God is SO good in His provision!! I’m thankful for Heather’s gift to you. :)

Before I even started this study, I HAD to get a handle on my piles of papers. My kitchen is my home office, with half of my buffet serving as my filing cabinet. I use cardboard magazine holders to hold folders of my important papers. It’s always been too time consuming for me to file things like insurance papers away, so I ended up with the dreaded piles of papers in my kitchen (which are put away in my bedroom when company comes over. :(

The answer to my problem were some CUTE, CUTE, CUTE rectangular baskets at Michael’s: there are three of them that nest inside of each other, and they have these adorable little chalkboards on them (which I used crayon instead of chalk to write what their contents hold). Since they’re different sizes and different colors, they look very nice in my kitchen and are perfect to help me stay organized. The smallest one is for my magazines, the largest one is for my cards (I love to send people cards so I have quite a few boxes), and the other is my “bills, etc.” The bills basket is the perfect size for file folders and I use that for my bills, receipts, etc.

Now all these important papers that stressed me out with their piles are easily stored in this cute basket in their individual files! I plan on filing these away once every few months when I have more time. I have to handle my important papers twice, but it’s a system that works for me. I haven’t had a pile on my kitchen table or my buffet for over a month now!! :D

I know I’m just overlooking something, but where would I go to listen to the recorded conference calls that have already been done? Thx!
