Week 8, I Used to Be So Organized

If you are feeling defeated, I want you to go back and read Friday’s blog post.   I cannot stress enough, that our current study is designed to unclutter your mind first, then select pieces of your home and surroundings that you choose to work on next.  We are gaining a lot of information, how we use it will vary between us. I want us all to stay calm, upbeat, and celebrate our accomplishments~big and small.

Week 8

This week, we will read Chapters 18 & 19 which focus on our functional living areas, closets, and storage spaces.  These chapters are short, but packed with great ideas. My notebook is now overflowing with useful tools when I’m ready to implement them. At that time, I’ll have a plan, thanks to this study. I’ve really focused on not getting overwhelmed and listening to God. My cluttered mind has needed order.  And my actions will follow.  For now, I’m just getting so excited orchestrating a plan because of all the great ideas in this book!

Memory verse:

Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.
~Ephesians 6:7-8 NIV84

Bible Study Friends, don’t you see. The Lord doesn’t look at what man looks at. He looks at your heart. As we strive to do better each day, remember Who it is we are serving. It’s always God. And guess what?  The devil doesn’t like that very much.  Have you been under attack?  Keep pushing onward sister.  Don’t give up. Whatever you are doing, whether at home, work, or wherever, do it as if you are serving the Lord.  You may not feel good today, but He sees you, knows you, and cares. You will be rewarded.

Suggested Assigments:

Sunday~ Praise the Lord. Thank Him for your blessings. What are you  thankful for today?

Monday~ Read Chapter 18, Functional Living Areas. This chapter is for me!  Everything Glynnis writes about, I can use.  At first when I was reading it, I  began to breathe heavy…feeling a little anxious and thinking, “no way I can do all this.”  Believe me, I’m tempted to quit.  Then I paused, closed my eyes and had a moment with God.  Then I had a new thought, one I knew was in line with God and His Word, “I can’t do all of this today nor will I attempt to do it today.  I will highlight what I plan to implement and carry out the plans when it’s time. With God, anything is possible. I’m serving Him and I will not quit.”  I gathered lots of ideas in this chapter, in fact I think it’s going to be my starting place as I implement my over all organizational plan.

Monday~ Conference Call with Professional Organizer, Eileen Koch.  I spoke with Eileen last week and she’s already begun helping ladies from this online Bible study!  She has so much to share with us about clutter and organization and let me tell you, it’s never about our stuff!  She brings God and His Word into everything she does. Visit her website to get to know her http://www.tothenextlevel.net/ and if you are on Facebook, be sure to “like” her page, To The Next Level.  Eileen has a heart to help and I can’t wait for you to meet her and learn about all she has to offer. If you are organizationally challenged, help is on the way!  If you haven’t signed up for the conference calls, it’s not too late. Sign up now and you receive all 4 calls in the series.    Call begins at 8:00 pm EST.  Call the Proverbs 31 Office if you have questions. 877-731-4663

Tuesday~ You know what?  Today, let’s just take a breather.  Yep, how about a day of rest?  Focus on what’s good in your life. Give thanks for it. Find someone to encourage today. Spread some good Jesus love, everyone can use more of that!  Report back here and share what you did, let’s praise together!

Wednesday~ Last week on the Online Bible Studies Facebook Page, readers were asked to share a recipe that was considered their signature recipe.  The responses were so yummy!  Today, share a recipe with us.  In the comment section, not only tell us the dish you are known for, but share the recipe so we can make it too!  Sounds fun huh?  We can begin to incorporate new recipes into our grocery list and menu planning from last weeks’ chapters.

Thursday~ Read Chapter 19, Closets and Storage Spaces.  Ugh, is anyone dreading this as much as I am~ LOL!  Please don’t judge me by the way my closets and storage spaces look!  Looking forward to the ideas in this chapter.

Friday~ It’s a Glynnis day~ Yippee!  Let’s go see what she has for us this week!

Let’s make Week 8 a great week. We can’t control everything around us, but we can control our responses.  Thank you for joining this study with me.  I love y’all and I need encouragement and accountability just like most people do!  Praying my sweet sisters have a fabulous week!

  1. Catherine Shepard says:

Melissa, it’s been a great study and I appreciate the honesty everyone has with where they are or not in getting their house organized. One area ate a time and for me the area I started in is also the area that needs the most work…..so I’m still working on that. It’s also the area that is continually getting stuff added to it and dumped on it – my in home office…so much paper!
I’ve tried to consolidate by getting some things sent electronically rather than snail mail which helps a lot. But those items still need to be organized.
Loving all the ideas in the book..time to get back to that spring cleaning mom did every year..it really helps with keeping things manageable.

  2. Caroline says:

Melissa, thanks for your encouragement and your advice to “keep it real.” We’ve got to remember what we learned at the beginning of the study–to set realistic expectations for ourselves, that are in line with our priorities and God’s will for our lives.

  3. I was really feeling kinda stuck…I was still ib the to do vs project list. BUT….BUT..by making my project list and beginning to dejunk..I have sold over $1000.00 on ebay..The best thing is that all the money pays for our vacation to the ocean at the end of August! So I think that is some awesome progress …..THANK YOU FOR THIS STUDY!!!!

  4. I am so thankful today for time spent with my family and friends this summer. Although my house is messy right now, I couldn’t be happier or feel more blessed. And I’m thankful for you and your friendship Mel, these studies are a huge gift and blessing.

  5. Thanks for the encouraging words tonight Melissa! They are so needed in my life right now. The memory verse that was selected is awesome, as God’s word always is.

Tackling some closets this week, starting the empty nest phase also. Hmmm, not one I have always looked forward to! :)

    Claiming Ephesians 6:7-8
    Everyone have a great week!!!

  6. Teresa T says:

I am blessed that after 14 years in our home, we are now getting a new kitchen. I took 7 boxes to Goodwill. We only need 1 blender, 1 whisk, …. it is liberating to get rid of the excess.

  7. Can we skip Ch. 19? 😉
