Imperfect Progress~Unglued, Week 1, Monday

Hello and Happy Monday from Charlotte, NC, USA!  Thanks for joining me in the Unglued Online Bible Study!  We are just getting started and I’m so happy you are joining me.

If you missed yesterday’s post containing our Week 1 Assignments, you can see them all here.

This is your assignment for today.

Read Chapter 1,  An Invitation to Imperfect Progress. Use a highlighter to highlight parts you want to remember or come back and read later. Make notes in your notebook of key Scripture (like the Memory Verse) and important things to remember from Chapter 1.

Look up our first Memory Verse in your Bible. Highlight it. Write it in your notebook or on some notecards. Practice it and ask God how you can apply it personally to your life. (If you can’t see the picture, visit my blog by clicking here.)

“…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”  Hebrews 12:1b

An Amazing Woman and a Give-Away (3 give-aways!)

Here’s a chance for you to win 1 of 3 Conference Call Series Give-Aways and I also want you to meet our special guest of the week, Deborah Smith Pegues, author of 30 Days to Taming Your Tongue and 30 Days to Taming Your Emotions.

Bestselling author and international speaker, Deborah Smith Pegues, delivers sage advice on relational, financial, and emotional freedom for secular and religious audiences around the world. She is a high-energy, inspiring motivator, effectively incorporating humor and hard-hitting directness into her presentations to her never-bored listeners. Deborah has the unique ability to address readers across all social, racial, and economic strata.

A prolific writer, her most popular book, 30 Days to Taming the Tongue, challenges readers to embark upon 30 days of verbal abstinence from 30 negative uses of the tongue including complaining, gossiping, lying, retaliating, etc. (I have personally read this book and can honestly say it helped my life and especially my marriage tremendously. I really thought about the words that came out of my mouth! Love it! This book is a Proverbs 31 Ministries Best Seller.)

Her newest book, 30 Days to Taming Your Emotions, challenges readers as well to take a good look at how they react emotionally. This book is a consolidation of 30 Days to Taming Your Stress, 30 Days to a Great Attitude, and Supreme Confidence (condensed version). Thus, it contains 90 practical tips that will help you discover the calm, confident, caring you—all in one volume.

If you order from Deborah’s website, she will personally autograph your book!!!!  Wow!  Check out all of her books and order information here:  http://www.confrontingissues.com/products.php.

Unglued~Week 1

Imperfect

I am. You are. We all are. And that’s why we are doing this Unglued Online Study. The study will not make us perfect, but we will make imperfect changes. “Imperfect changes are slow steps of progress wrapped in grace…imperfect progress.” ~ Lysa TerKeurst, Chapter 1, Unglued

If you cannot see the video, please click here.

Memory Verses for Week 1

Chapter 1

Hebrews 12:1b NIV84

… let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Chapter 2

2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV84

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Suggested Assignments for Week 1

****Note: depending on what side of the world you are on, the day may be different for you, and that is okay. I am in Charlotte, NC USA on Eastern Standard Time.

*****Another Note: Thursday will be Unglued Blog Hop Day. If you have a blog AND write a message that relates to Chapters 1 or 2 of Unglued, you can share it and I’ll link to your blog. This will give you the opportunity to share with us! So, bloggers, get those blog posts ready and bring them here on Thursday to share. I want to be read what you have to say!

Sunday~ Pray like you mean it. Take 5 minutes and pray for:

  • Yourself-that God would speak to you personally through this study and that you will listen and be open to His will for your life. Pray that you will stay committed throughout this study to read, keep up with your assignments, and get the most out of this time that you possibly can.
  • Your Bible Study Community-that each of us would gain more hope and closeness to God through this study. Pray for each other’s homes, jobs, and families. Pray whatever is on your heart for our OBS community.
  • Your Online Bible Study Leaders-pray for the OBS team to also be still and listen to God throughout this study. Pray for balance in our lives and wisdom as we lead here. Pray that we will not move one step forward without the Lord. And pray for His favor over each of us and this OBS.

If you’d like to share in the comment section, that would be great. But you don’t have to. Your prayers are most importantly between you and God, but for those of us who are just learning to pray, reading the prayers of others could be very helpful. It’s up to you :)

Get prepared for Monday. Go ahead and have your book and any other supplies you might need (Bible, notebook, pen, highlighters) set out or in a bag together where you can find it easily. Get a good night’s sleep.

This is the same post from Wednesday, but it’s SO IMPORTANT I’m posting it again. Make sure you read this before the study begins on Sunday!

Dear Unglued Online Bible Study Friends,

Hey!!! It’s almost time to begin and I have some very important information to make sure you get the most out of this study!

PRINT OR SAVE THIS! Just FYI, I will be posting this Wednesday and Friday. So you will see it twice or more. It’s that important.

I can hardly contain myself.  I’M SO STINKIN’ EXCITED!!!  Yes I know all caps means I’m yelling and I am. I’m dancing too!  We’ve been talking about it for so long and now it’s almost time.

This email/blog post is VERY IMPORTANT if you are participating in the Online Bible Study (OBS).  Please read each and every word.  Then in the comment section, let me know you’ve read this and understand. If you don’t understand, ask your question(s) in the comment section. An OBS team member or I will reply, so make sure you check back.

Unglued Online Bible Study

What You Must Know

1.  The study takes place at http://melissataylor.org.  This is your #1 source of information. All other outlets, such as Facebook and Twitter are just options. The study is not run on Facebook and you do not have to have Facebook or Twitter to do this study. Only my blog.  You may hear me refer to FB and Twitter on occasion, I use them as supplements and free options for more interaction.

2.  Every Sunday, beginning September 23rd, the Unglued Suggested Assignments for that week will be posted at  http://melissataylor.org .  You can give yourself a reminder to check my blog daily or sign up to receive my blog via email. This sign up is different than signing up for the Unglued Bible Study.  Look UNDER my picture in the right column. You should see a place to subscribe to my blog posts via Feedburner or Email. I suggest email. That way the study will always come to you and you don’t have to remember to come to it. It is up to you to check for the weekly assignments. If you have ANY problems understanding how to do this, just ask.   (There is no certain time of day that you have to check my blog, check it at your convenience. That’s the beauty of an online study!)

3.  There will be useful content on my blog pertaining to the Unglued study all during the week. I highly encourage blog participation. This is where worldwide community takes place. There will be homework and study ideas, memory verse suggestions, discussion questions, video messages, and opportunities for anyone who blogs about Unglued to share their blog post weekly.  You have to visit my blog daily or subscribe to the posts (see #2) in order to access everything the study offers.

4.  You must have the Unglued book in order to participate in this Online Bible Study. We will be using the book. You will not need any other Unglued materials at all, but you do need the book.  You can order or pick up the book almost anywhere books are sold. We have plenty here at Proverbs 31 Ministries. Click here to purchase Unglued. (note: If you ordered other Unglued materials, you will LOVE them. Use them for personal use to enhance this study.)

5.  Other items that will be helpful for this study:  a Bible, a notebook, pen or pencil, highlighter  (If you do not or can not get a Bible, please email MelissaTaylorQuestions@gmail.com)

6.  You will get out of this study exactly what you put in to it. As your Bible Study Leader, I will be encouraging you to keep up with our schedule (2 chapters per week) by carving out a specific time to work on Bible Study. Make this study a priority. You signed up. To me that means you are making a real comittment to this study. You can do this!  Make this a priority in your life. You are worth it! And you won’t regret it!

7. Online Bible Study Archives~ If you ever miss a few days or miss a post, have no fear. Every part of this study on this blog is saved in our archives. Just below the Proverbs 31 Ministries logo in the right column, you will see “Online Bible Study Archives.”  Click “Unglued” and you will find all posts pertaining to this OBS. Practice and make sure you understand this now.

8.  Our OBS Team wants to hear from you. There are many ladies who work behind the scenes to make sure this all comes together. Please share with us in the comment section during the study. We love to hear from you and it lets us know we aren’t alone. We desire real life community. We need you. You are a valuable part of this OBS.
