Wednesday’s Assignment

Read Chapter 10, Negative Inside Chatter

Before I even read this chapter (which is SPOT ON), I knew it would be speaking to me. Negative Inside Chatter is something I’ve had to confront many times during my life. I’ve gotten a lot better at recognizing it. I know the truth from the lies, but that’s only because I took the time to invest in me by instilling and doing my best to live by the Truth of God’s Word.

Investing in yourself is a worthwhile investment. It’s not lazy or selfish. God gave us life. The way we can honor Him is to invest in His creation, us.  Most of us want to invest in others, in fact that’s often not so hard. We get to shift our focus off of ourselves when we do that. But to invest in ourselves? That takes guts and courage.

I’m not talking about treating ourselves to a piece of chocolate or a new outfit. That’s a treat. And I’m not saying ignore others, definitely not!  I mean take personal time occasionally to investment in you, where you are putting it all out there, on the line, and seeking Jesus to transform the patterns of your mind.

It was only when I began seeking Jesus first, that the negative chatter in my mind began to go away. I’m not saying I’m cured. The devil knows how to get to me…make me feel like I’m worthless, unloving, inadequate.  Yea, I get that a lot. But I also have learned to fight it. Daily.

Just take a peek at the first page of this chapter:

It’s time to tackle negative inside chatter—those misguided thoughts that can easily turn into perceptions that then all too easily turn into dangerous realities. And realities based on runaway feelings rather than truth always lead to one thing—insecurity….Toxic thoughts are so dangerous because they leave no room for truth to flourish. and lies are what reign in the absence of truth.

Lysa’ husband once said to her, “Please don’t hold me liable for saying things that are really only thoughts in your mind.”

How many times have I appointed thoughts that I assumed someone else thought about me, when truthfully they never said those words?  That’s just a lot of grief and anxiety for nothing. It’s unnecessary and it’s a distraction from where God wants us.

If you struggle with negative inside chatter, you are sure to gain wise insight from Chapter 10.

Tomorrow we’ll be taking a study break to read some Unglued thoughts on the OBS Blog Hop. Friday, we’ll be discussing Chapter 10.

Am I the Empty Woman? Unglued, Week 5

Monday’s Assignment

Read Chapter 9, The Empty Woman

Tuesday’s Assignment

Chapter 9, The Empty Woman, gives us the opportunity to take a hard look at ourselves.  Well, let’s face it, this entire Unglued book has given us the opportunity to do that!  And that’s exactly the way I want us to view it.

If we are applying what we learn, then most of us have probably run into some sand paper moments. We can be afraid and run, writing them off as not worth the effort. Or we can grab the opportunity for growth, the opportunity to trust God, the opportunity for life change.

When we are challenged or taken out of our comfort zones in order for Godly change to take place, we enter into dangerous territory. When we get there, we are surely going to be met with obstacles and confrontation. We can either run and remain the same or we can face them head on. Unafraid because we are not alone.

As Jesus girls, there is no need for us to run away or stuff the issues back down again.

Unglued is the opportunity to change. To do it different this time around.

The Empty Woman. Is this me?  Is this you? Complete today’s questions that go along with Chapter 9.

1. Share the top 5 main points in chapter 9 according to you. There is no right or wrong answer here.
2. Do you struggle with jealousy, envy, or comparison? What can you do about it?
3. Write out Galatians 6:4-10. How can this passage of Scripture help us move from a jealous spirit to a giving spirit?

Isn’t it wonderful how the solution to all of our unglued tendencies can be found in the same place. The only solution “is pure truth from God’s Word.”

Come on group! Share with your Jesus sisters what you discovered today.
