Let’s Discuss Greater, Chapter 1

Tuesday~There are discussion questions located in the back of your Greater book. “Because greater happens together…” let’s discuss these questions. Complete the discussion questions for Chapter 1 in your personal notebook, then visit my blog to discuss.

I am flying high this morning!  So excited to get this study off the ground. So excited about the amazing conference call with Pastor Steven last night. So excited about what God is going to do in our lives through this Greater study. If I had any doubts, they were removed with the message of last night’s 1st Greater Conference Call.

I know not everyone is doing the conference call series, and I usually don’t push them that much. They are an extra expense and I understand not everyone wants to spend the extra money for conference calls. I get that, I really do. Proverbs 31 provides the resources for us to be able to do these calls and the money spent by you provides those resources.  We are a non profit organization and the resources and services we provide, we stand behind. We believe that you will get over and above the money you spend. We make sure that each conference call contains a message that is worth the money you spend. $19.97 for 4 conference calls.  Last night’s call alone was worth more than that. If anyone who purchases the conference calls is not 100% satisfied, we will gladly refund your money. We want everyone to be completely happy with what they get.

Last night was one of those special calls where God moved in a big way. Any doubts that God could do greater in our lives was removed. “Jesus in me” makes it all possible.  If you would like to sign up for the calls, it’s not too late. Each call is recorded so if you can’t be on live, you don’t miss anything. In fact, you can even download the call message and save it on your computer. Many people go back and listen to the messages while they exercise, work, or drive. These messages are tailor made for you, the participants in the study. They are not generic messages. Each message is new and fresh. If you are interested in signing up, you can do that here.

If you are participating in conference calls, please share in the comment section your thoughts about last night’s call. Pastor Furtick’s words to us and the message that followed. What did you take away from the call and how did you like it?

Ok, so on to today’s assignment~ the discussion questions. I would love to hear your response to question 4.  What’s your reaction to this book’s concept of greater (as opposed to grandiose greatness and mediocre good enough)?  How does it affect your perspective on your future?

Also, Pastor Furtick encourages us at the end of the discussion questions:

Start small:  As a group decide that you’re going to be there for each other in your pursuit of greater. Begin praying for one another, asking God to open your eyes to the greater things He has in store for each of you.

It is my prayer that this is exactly what we will do for each other. We all signed up for an Online Bible Study…with others. There are people from all over the world doing this study together. I know that can seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. We can learn so much from each other. We need each other. And what a blessing to have the accountability, encouragement, and support. Do you have a prayer that you can share for your Online Bible Study group today?

I’m so thankful for each of you. I love our little group from 48 different countries around the world. Together, with God, we will pursue greater.

Greater, Chapter 1

Welcome to Greater! (If you receive this through email and cannot see the video below, click here.) And dang, why does You Tube stop the video at the worst possible place? Gotta love (hate) the freeze frame! (it’s ok if you laugh, I would too if it wasn’t me!)

Here is your assignment for today. Make time to complete it (it only takes 10-20 minutes) and enjoy! Let’s get Greater!

Monday~ Pray. Begin each time of study in prayer. Read Chapter 1, Steve and Me. If you are receiving this via email, visit my blog, http://melissataylor.org/ to share your thoughts and insights. As you read, each Bible verse that is mentioned in the chapter, stop and look it up in your Bible. There’s just one for this chapter, so it won’t be too hard!  This is what I do:

Many of you asked what Bible I use. I use the NIV Life Application Study Bible. I love it! If you are looking for a new Bible, I suggest you go to a Christian bookstore, pull some Bibles off the shelf, sit on the floor and go through them. Pick the one you like best. That’s what I did. I’ve purchased different versions, but I love the Life Application Study Bible because it helps me understand how to apply God’s Word to my life today.

Greater Conference Call #1~ We are kicking off our Greater Conference Call Series with the author of Greater, pastor of Elevation Church~ Steven Furtick! If you signed up for the calls, you will receive an email with the call information on Monday. If you’d like to sign up for the calls, you can do that here.

Tonight’s call begins at 8:00 pm EST.  Call participants, have your pen and notebook handy. You will be both informed and challenged by this call. It’s all good…no, I mean great! If you want to chat or discuss the call as it takes place, make sure you join the Facebook Event which will be going on live during the call.

After reading Chapter 1, what are your thoughts?  Are you on board?  Do you believe?  Share a prayer for the group in the comment section today about believing for Greater in our lives.  Also share any Greater prayer requests, thoughts, or insights from Chapter 1.

Greater, Week 1

What would you think if someone said to you, “Dream Bigger. Start Smart Smaller. Ignite God’s Vision For Your Life.”

I’m going to be honest. I would think, “That sounds great…for you maybe. But I’m afraid to dream big. My dreams don’t seem to fully become reality. I’m ok with that. I’ve learned to settle.”

As I write honestly, I also remember what I KNOW. I may not be able to make my dreams come true. But I have a great big God living within me. I believe in Him. And I believe His Word. So therefore, the truth is, all things are possible with God. Because of this, I can confidently dream big.

Are you ready to live by this possibility? I pray you are, because that’s what Greater is all about. Believe it people. Choose to believe it and dive into this Bible study with all your heart. With all your mind. With all your ability. With your Great Big God, Who is ready to ignite His vision for your life. All He needs to make this happen is you!

For those of you who are new to this OBS (Online Bible Study), each week I’ll post the full week of assignments on Sunday. This way you will have the week’s assignments all in one place. But I hope you won’t just come here on Sunday. Each day discussion and interaction concerning Greater and the chapters/message/application will take place. It’s so important for you to participate here. We need your participation to make this a lively thriving community. That’s why this OBS is so special. It’s because of you. Please join me and share how God is working in you throughout this study.

The most important thing you can do as we get started is to make Bible study a priority in your life. No excuses. Just do it. Life is busy and things will compete for your time. Make the decision now that you will do this. Plan your time of study. This is the best advice I can give you. This study can change your life, but only if you make the time to do it. :)

This week’s topics…Pick one.
1. Greater Things. What are your thoughts on this week’s reflection verse?

I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in Me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.   ~ John 14:12 NIV84

2. See ya Mediocrity! What would a “Greater” life for God look like to you?

“The president probably won’t release a statement calling us the greatest anything when we die…Nobody will post a blog entry about our lives…” pg 7

3. Lifted Up! Write a blog post lifting up someone in your life or a person from Scripture who inspires you to live greater!

Friday~ Complete discussion questions for Chapter 2. Visit my blog, http://melissataylor.org/ to go deeper and participate in discussion.

Saturday~ Christmas traditions. Join me on Saturdays during the month of December to share your Christmas traditions and decorating, baking, and party ideas.

Other Study Options~

Reflection Verse~ I want to empower you and encourage you to really meditate and reflect on God’s Word during this study. Each week, you will be given a verse. Read it. Look it up in your Bible. Study it. Learn it. God’s Word is the foundation of all we do in this study. Without it, we have nothing but words. With it, we have a new life.

Week One
“I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in Me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”  (Jesus speaking)      ~ John 14:12 NIV84
