So excited to start back up! The reflection verse is one the Lord spoke into my heart last fall right around the time we were doing Unglued.

I am ready for the new week!

Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things! I love the reflection verse….my mom always reminds me of this verse. Especially, when I feel like what I’m doing is not much or not important. She always tells me this and says that God will see how I handle the small things He gives me before He gives me the bigger things. I need to stay faithful regardless of what “I think or feel”….because it is all for Him!

What is my Jordan River? That is a very good question. A question which I am not sure how to answer yet. God has placed on my heart the need to try to resuscitate the relationship with my sister. He has also been placing many hurting people in my life and I am not sure why. I am certainly not equipped to do more than pray for them right now. Also, a friend of ours is in prison and God has introduced us to an ex-con who was saved in prison and wants to start some type of prison ministry. I am willing to be obedient, I am just not sure yet what He desires of me and my husband. Pray that we will not miss the opportunities He has for us to be humble and serve.

This book has been life changing for me. I’m doing again with the ladies from our church. I really hate to see it end. :-) Thank you all who have been apart of this amazing study!

Highlights of Chapter 9:

I like where they describe pride. they said that’s the thing about pride, it’s always somebody else’s problem. but according to scripture, pride is the disposition of the heart that brings opposition from God.

God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6 )

pride also is the most difficult part of the lesser life to leave behind.
it’s the most intrinsic to us.

I have to agree with Lynn, the discussion on pride really hit home. It’s so easy to see in other people. I think my pride disguises itself as service. I love to serve, but I also really like when people acknowledge my service, part of that is just human nature (but then again so is pride!)

I think most women have this struggle. I know I battle it everyday, especially at my job. It takes a lot to admit it to yourself, but once you do I think it allows us to go to God more when it rears its ugly head. Thanks for sharing with us. Many blessings to you <3

I loved this chapter. I am struggling with a situation right now that has been ongoing for over eleven years. There seems to be no end to it. I don’t want to let go and let God because I feel that I know what is best for all. Every time I do let go and let God, He takes the situation, turns it around and works it all out for the best. I pray for God’s leading this week as we go through mediation and that His will be done and that my pride does not get in the way of the decisions that must be made. I have had custody of two precious grandchildren siblings since they were mere infants and the situation is such that the bio mother thinks she can have a say over what is to be. She has not been around for years and the court lets her make decisions regarding the kids. God always works it out though and I need to set my pride aside, realize I don’t know what is best and let God do His work in the situation. This has been a great book for me.

So happy to be back and studing the book and bible again!
Pastor Furtick cracks me up! This book is great! I can’t stop laughing at his analogy to Meatloaf the singer. Have a great week everyone!

I got my Jordan River…….it’s an Attitude Check!! (OW!!)

Kim Flower January 8, 2013 at 11:24 pm

Hi Sally…thank you for sharing this. It’s a simple thing that we often forget to remember we must keep in check. It has enable me to share that my Jordan River is “remembering that my mouth is mine to control…I will do my very best to say or think nice thoughts, even when I want to rip into someone who makes me flare up.”

It may not sound like a lot to do, but it is for me. I often say things that I usually will regret later because it didn’t come out right. My Jordan River is to remember that I represent Christ in this body and my mouth must obey what I am committing to give to God.

This chapter was an eye opener for me…I have been blind to my pride. I have been thinking alot lately, to see how I do/think on many things and have come up with answers like”well I don’t really do that, so that doesn’t really pertain to me”OUCH I see that I have put my self above others…been prideful. Time for reflection and soul searching so that God may reveal my issues in order that He may allow.me to become Greater.

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much… ~ Luke 16:10a NIV84

It’s a powerful verse that can go either way. I think of it as, “here is your task…manage in a smaller form….succeed…then you will be given more to manage.” I find the verse very encouraging to those who truly want to serve the Lord. Baby steps lead to big steps that only help one grow spiritually.
