Greater~That’s a Wrap!

****There is still time to enter! Winner will be announced tomorrow, January 25th!  Read on for details.

If you are still with the Greater Online Bible Study, let me salute you!  Great job. This is a super big eye-opening book! Hard-core. Challenging. Awesome.

We are now at the end of the book, Chapter 12, Strike the Water and the Epilogue, These Bones.   When Elisha struck the Jordan River with his cloak, that was the sign he was ready to step into the future as a prophet in his own right. What does it mean for you to strike the water and move into the greater future God has planned for you? What is your next step? (Question #1 from reflection questions)  Funny how we are finishing the study Greater, but we are beginning our lives of Greater.  How do you feel about going for greater in your life? Are you ready? What are you excited about?  (Question #2 from the reflection questions)

I’m so sad to finish this book for a few reasons. First, Pastor Steven Furtick is the pastor of my church. My family is on fire for Christ because of him. My kids LOVE going to church and volunteer on their own. I respect him so much. I see him live his faith…and his insecurities. This book study has been very special to me. But also, this study has changed me. I’ve decided not to settle for mediocre, I’m going for greater.

Today I’m asking everyone to post a comment. How has Greater changed or affected your life?  Would you leave Pastor Steven Furtick a note in the comment section of this blog a note telling him about it and thanking him for an amazing book? I’m going to compile all the notes and send them to him and I really really really want everyone to participate. Let’s bless and encourage him, ok?   Everyone who does this will be entered to win our entire 2013 Online Bible Study book package. That includes each book we will be studying this year: a copy of Let. It. Go. by Karen Ehman, Stressed-less Living by Tracie Miles, What Happens When Women Say Yes to God by Lysa TerKeurst, and A Confident Heart by Renee Swope. And you’ll also win a purse-sized Bible.

Speaking of purse-sized Bibles, we have our winners from this week’s give away. These ladies have won a purse-sized Bible for themselves and a regular sized Bible to give away. Our winners are:

  1. Amanda, OBS leader grp 19 says:

What can I say! Wow! This book has been awesome! It has given me hope that He will use me right here, right now, without all the resources I feel I need. I love how the book was so ”down to earth”, I loved your openness and realness. It is so nice to see that people we see as farther in their walk are just the same as me and still struggle with the same things. I love the reminder that no matter what negative the world is telling me I can know the truth because ”my Daddy said so!” One small (but huge) step I have taken during Greater is to start personally praying with each of my children every night. I have also developed so much as a leader for Online Bible Studies by really focusing on what God wants me to do. Thank you I have seen some amazing things happen in my group in their development.

Thank you Melissa for leading such an awesome group. Even when times are hard you still give it your all! Love you girl!

  2. Pastor Furtick….I have not finished my Greater bible study or book yet. I am in the midst of a powerful storm preceding my predetermined Greater path. I felt the power behind this study in my life upon watching the first video session. Although I am behind in the study, it will be presented at the right time. Who knows… I may just be able to shake your had one day in person to thank you for the impact this book has made on MY Greater. Until then, I am trying to plant my feet firmly and not give up my faith. Thank you to all involved, Pastor Furtick, Melissa, the whole OBS team, and the participants for the encouragement to press forward. Never forget that you never know when your actions can keep someone grounded or how easily a person can be lost in the struggle you may not realize they are in.
    Thank you and God Bless.

  3. Lori Blackwell says:

    Hello Everyone,
First i want to thank God for putting all this together for us, what a blessing for us and for you to see your obedient servants wanting to be greater through you and for you. thank you for Pastor Steve to put all this down in words that I could understand and comprehend and apply to my life. For so long I’ve let satan live rent free in my mind, I was just existing, doing all the right things, saying the right things, trying to make everyone happy, and I was miserable. I started coming alive in the book “Trust Fund Baby” I have my own trust fund, I know Abraham and I are related because I have my own missteps, but what really changed it all last question on page 109 “AND WHAT ABOUT ALL THE GOOD THINGS HE’S GIVEN ME THAT I DIDN’T PRAY FOR AT ALL” I only focused on what I thought was the big things. Thank you Lord, for everything that I never thanked you for that you did. One last one thought, I could hear Frank talking to God about me and praying for me, because I was in the flesh, my joy was gone and I was pretending and I could understand why I was so spiritually lonely. I pray that I won’t be content with hearing about how others walked with you God so powerfully but that I will walk powerfully with you..
Thank you Melissa and all the OSB ladies who work so diligently to serve God greater. And a huge thanks to Lauren my #25 group leader, who has loved me through this study, prayed for me, sent me notes, one day we will meet and I can’t wait to give you a hug.

My life has forever been changed! I was raised in a Christian home and have gone thru the motions of a Christian-life. But this book… it awoke my spirit! It challenged and uplifted me! I have bought the book for several people as it touched my life! But the book just opened a hunger for more. My husband got me an iPOD for Christmas and it is fill of Pastor Furticks sermons/ teachings. Everyday I listen to at least one and on nights I work I watch them online. Thank you just doesn’t seem to say enough!

  5. Charolette Ragsdale says:

    Dear Pastor Furtick:

The best way for me to sum up reading your book titled, “Greater” is that it gave me alot of time to reflect on my past life, current life and God’s plans for my future life. I found this bible study to be the most challenging for me yet. I found it difficult to respond to some of the questions since I had to do a great deal of praying about it to God in order to find the answers. Usually, I am not quiet in nature, but I found a reason to be during this study since I am not fully aware yet of the Greater things God has in plan for my life in the future. I can set goals for myself like I always do, but I have to rely on God for the outcome since He is the one who fully knows what the future holds for me. He is the reason why we are all here, so naturally we want to do what He asks of us and do it in a pleasing, yet graceful way. I also participated in the small group and gained alot of new perspective from reading the posts of the other ladies in my group moreso than my own posts.

Pastor Furtick, I thoroughly enjoyed reading every page in your book. I found myself wanting more with each new chapter I read in the book. But, at the same time, I found it to become more challenging at the same time. I can tell you put a great deal of thought and work into writing a book like this one. It is a marvelous book that leaves a great message for all Christians. Naturally, we all want Greater things in our lives and be made aware of our purpose here on Earth. Sometimes, we do not realize what those Greater things are as fast as some other people. It all has to do with His timing and His plan for each and every one of us…if we are not willing to wait in His timing we may miss what He has in store for our future. The word that will stick out in my mind during this study was “PATIENCE” because God has been teaching me to be more patient and wait for His answer rather than try to solve problems in my life. I have always been a planner all my life and one who generally likes to work ahead, so sometimes I find myself having a difficult time slowing down and waiting before I respond to something happening in my life. I sometimes think if I feel like I am behind on something, I may miss something and/or not have a chance to catch up. But, I have learned over time you cannot have thoughts like these if you are trusting God for the answer in your life.

Thank you again for writing such a remarkable book that we can all gain from in our daily lives. It has been quite an eye-opening experience for me and know I will plan to read it again one day in the near future. I always like to re-read books because I find I missed something the first time around. Another valuable tool I have used when I read Christian books is to use the Bible as a reference when the author cites a BIble verse. It is amazing how much more the reader gains when they read the verse in the Bible and see how it is relevant to what you read in the book. I hope God richly blesses your life like you have blessed our life with your book.

  6. Carissa D. Huffman says:

    Pastor Furtick–

Thanks so much for writing Greater. I have truly internalized truths like a greater life is not about me. I have taken some steps of radical obedience, recommitting to some unglamorous things I need to do, and spending 5 hours on the road to audition for The Voice. I am living the truth that none of my faith is wasted, and look forward to how God will use my Heavenly trust fund.

Thank you for telling the story of the Bishop family–I am going through a similar struggle with a strong desire to add to my family, and their story gave me such hope.

You really wrote like you were sitting in my living room cheering me on. I think that tone made it easy to absorb the deep message of this book.

I am dreaming big, and starting small. I will never be the same.

    Carissa in eastern Iowa

  7. Kathleen K. says:

Thank you so much for this book Pastor Steve and Melissa for leading the Bible study. This book has challenged me and made me reflect back on my life – where I’ve been and where I feel the Lord is leading. The timing of this study was perfect for the place I am in right now in my life. Reading the posts helped me with more insight. It was a great life changing study. Thanks again.

  8. Pastor Steve; I must say I found it very hard to read your book in the beginning and to see any hope for me…because I just thought my life had greater problems than you could possibly understand and I could see no way out. But as my Awesome OBS Group kept pushing me to hang in there and push through I began to see where the ole crafty one was just using my plow and my oxen’s that are in a ditch as a way to keep me from having dreams and pushing through no matter what my age or the things going on around me. As I read I gained hope and I pray that God would open my eyes to see what was really out there helping me to fight my battles.. but even with all that my greatest blessing came at the end when you told the story of your children and how you encourage them and then you had to seek God even in your good and positive motives and redirect with ” My Father Says So”. That is my new saying for 2013; No matter what comes against me I know that my Father says I am worth going to the cross for and that my life is worth all that He has been through. I will continue to struggle through the things of my personal world but with a much more clearer view of who I am to my Father than I have had in the past…Though I don’t know what my Greater will be but I know my Father does. Thank you for obeying God to write these words to encourage and direct all who open the pages of the book Greater.

  9. Christina R says:

    Pastor Furtick,
Thank you for following the call and writing this book. I have been challenged and am excited to see what God is calling me to. I appreciate your open and honest writing. My husband and I had a good chuckle over the Meat Loaf reference!

  10. This was my first OBS. At first, it was a little overwhelming with everything else going in my life, but I stuck with it and it was worth it.
This book has helped me to remember to stop and listen for God’s will amidst the “noise” of life . My “greater” is not going to come in neon or with clanging and gongs … it is in the everyday things… but I am called to make sure that God’s peace, love, grace and forgiveness are worked into the everyday as best I can. Drama, issues, problems, conflict – all block God. If I can merely open the window a crack, I can have his love in my home and my heart…. I am looking forward to being greater with my family…

  11. tsitsi sithole says:

After doing Unglued I told as many as I could to join Greater one is an elders wife in my church she shared about this they have already shared to many people about it. Our lives will never be the same thank you I have had a low self esteem but my Father says I am so I’m a daughter of the Most high so nothing is impossible thank you ps Steve I’m not setteling for ordinary but I’m asking God to open my eyes for greater in my life Melissa u are amazing thank you

  12. carol costello says:

Pastor Steve…Wow! Your book had impacted my life and the lives of so many of many friends, some who participated in the Bible Study and other who we shared the book with to help them in turbulent times. Thank you a hundred times over for writingthis book and for sharing your insecurities. Even though my small group of friends and I are all dealing with different life issues, there is one thing we all agree on: we would all love to have you as our neighbor and pastor!

  13. Tanisha Grant says:

Pastor Steve!!! You are amazing!! Your book was amazing and help me to understand I am not the only person in this world with insecurities. Thank you a job well done.

  14. Jessica Jackson says:

LOVED the book!! It was so awesome and such great info that I took in an can pass along! I have signed up to listen to your sermons during the week while I’m driving for work on YouTube :-) I especially loved the prayers in the back :-) Thanks for the great book!! <3

  15. What an awesome book! I am forever changed, which also means those close to me are forever changed. No more living in mediocrity, no more living and settling for the ordinary. The timing of doing the “Greater” OBS is nothing short of amazing. During the course of this study, I have “struck the water” and said “yes” to letting God use me for a greater purpose in a couple different ways. I am excited about going for greater in my life, but at the same time I am also a little scared. But, each time I step out, it will get easier and easier. Onward and Upward! Thank you Pastor Furtick and Melissa!

  16. Praise God for you and your faithfulness to burn your plows. Because of a merciful and loving God who does not give up on his heirs my heart is now open to receive, my marriage is on a course for restoration, my family is experiencing healing, our lives will never be the same. The book Greater did not change my life, but it was THE tool used by God to renew me and shake me down and open my eyes. I am the recipient and the first hand witness of the abundance of the Lord and the power that is possible when we can learn to run to him, to burn our plows and to follow. Pastor Steven, I have decided to follow Jesus no turning back. Thank you, thank you and all glory to God!!

  17. Pastor Furtick,

I can’t tell you or express how happy I was about this study and how Great I feel after it. I know for a fact God put me hear for Unglued and submerged me right in just in time for greater and the new year. God’s planning on moving me and my family to Houston, but in order for us to see the steps He wan’t us to take we must stop living in that dull mediocrity of everyday life and conundrums.

The first couple of chapters were an eye-opened to begin with. To actually assess my life, and I found out I was living as I have feared: Behind the plow. I didn’t want that and to see someone finally write a book about how it feels to be behind the plow and wanting to breakout… You just hit it on the nail. Thank you so much for your faithfulness in publishing such a book. This isn’t a self help book, nope, it’s way better than that. It’s a book of restoration… to give God’s people back the strength and the power they had before Satan stole it from us.

I will not settle for less, I’m going for >Greater.

    Annie ^_^

  18. Dear Pastor Steven and Melissa and OBS Leaders–Thank you Pastor Steven for writing such an insightful book–this book opened my mind that it’s not the big stuff, but the simple everyday things can make such an impact on someones life.
Learning to burn the plow–loved this part–“before you can go forward into the life God has for you, you have to offer Him every part of the life you have.”
For me I will re-read this book again before we start the next online Bible Study.
There is so much to digest, pray about, and apply in my life. I purchased the book for a special friend and for my son. I told my husband last night he needed to read this book–For me I found my JOY again–burning a certain plow that was weighing me down. By letting God take control has changed my life–prayers I had prayed have been answered–it is so humbling–for this I give God the glory–
Thank you and God’s blessings to each of you! SueC

  19. Karen Redmon says:

    Pastor Furtick,

Your book Greater has been a blessing to me. It has blessed me inn so ways. It has also challenged me to not settle regardless of what is going on in my life. I know I can have greater and stop searching for the greatest in things because it does leave you feeling loss and depleted. This is a book that I will read again and I feel would be a great seed to sow into others lives. I am so glad for you listening to what God put on your heart and sharing with us. I found myself re-reading chapters because I found it was actually bibical steps that I could apply to my life and see the fruits of it. I am looking forward to reading more of your books. Blessing to you and thanks Melissa for listening to the Lord and doing this study. Awesome!

    For His Glory

  20. Had a great visual at church tonite. Imagine the Trinity:
God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit standing in a circle, holding hands, and YOU are in the CENTER of them.
Close your eyes now. Imagine that very visual (FACT). As you have your eyes closed and sense their Holy Presence surrounding you, securely holding you.
What problem could possibly stand a chance when you are that secure, that stable? Let the cares you have be washed away – because God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit have you well taken care of. They will create the solution to your issues, today, tomorrow and forever – and ever! Amen!

  21. Lynda Parker (OBS Group Leader) says:

Before I started the study of Greater I had been volunteering at our Pregnancy Center for several years. I also have a special needs granddaughter thatlost her Mom and I am trying to teach her to read. At the beginning of this study I felt so much resistence in my heart. I have retired and felt like it was “my time!” I teach a class at our Pregnancy Center for women that have lost babies through miscarriage or shortly after birth. This has been “my heart” as I lost a beautiful little baby boy many years ago. As I studied Greater a new class has been forming and I feel the Lord leading me to “Greater,” to a deeper love and compassion for these women, to “see” their hearts! I have developed a “longing” for His Word and for prayer like nothing I have ever felt before! (I also have had some major plows to burn!) I absolutely love Melissa Taylor and the women in this beautiful ministry that share their love for the Lord, and their love for us! I am so thankful to Pastor Steven Furtick’s for sharing his heart, and for “Greater” coming into my life at the perfect time! I can’t even begin to tell you all how “life changing” this study has been for me! Thank you so much to all of you!!

  22. I just want to say thank you for this amazing book! I have such big dreams and when they don’t happen the way I expect, it’s so easy to be discouraged. This book has helped me so much in three ways – 1. to appreciate that it’s often the small things that lead to the big things and not to overwhelm myself and set goals that are unrealistic and 2. to give God the chance to work through me, to “be still” and listen before I rush headlong and 3. that it’s natural to lose some momentum and how important it is to go back to God and ask Him for the help I need. I have LOVED this book and I thank God that a friend sent me a link to this study. I am definitely here to stay and can’t wait for the next study!

  23. This bible study came to me at the perfect time. I thank P31 ministries and Melissa Taylor and Lisa Kemp and all the other amazing ladies that help the OBS work so wonderfully. I also want to thank Steven Furtick for this amazing book. It really came to me at the most Godly perfect time. Because as I was stepping out to do Greater and started a ministry to fight Human trafficking God gave me Greater during Greater. How cool is that? We got our first two safe houses and then rescued our first two Children. God showed me Greater like I never dreamed. Praising God and all involved as I mentioned above for being a part of this greater time with me. Love you all! :-)

  24. This book has been awesome!! It took me from where Unglued started me to start to begin to handle the way I react in situations and change my reaction to a greater space. Which is amazing! The progress God has led me to is a miracle!! I know when I study this book again further areas of my life will transform!! Thank you Pastor Furtick for writing and sharing this book! Question Pastor: can you move to my town and open a church since we’re not ready to move to NC? It would be amazing to be in your fellowship!! Thank You!

    • I forgot to mention, in addition from this book I am stepping out and up to facilitate a bible study for women in my church! I know God has greater things for me and my family as I move forward!

  25. Greater really open my eyes to a lot of things that I have been going through. Limiting myself, being complacent with were I am on my job to name a few. I would like to thank Pastor Steven Furtick for his incite. I am ready to burn up/ getting rid of what has been hindering me so I can begin whatever GOD has plan ahead of me. Thanks to Melissa for having these online Bible studies. You have truly been an inspiration in my life this past year. The books you and your team have chosen for Bible studies have been very helpful. To the authors of those books – GOD bless you all – thank you for helping me be a better me. Love, hugs, and kisses.

  26. This study has really meant a lot to me. I’ve been going through a hard time and this has helped me to dream bigger but to take small steps. I must keep moving forward so I don’t get become glued again. One thing that really stuck with me from this church was seeing prayers as a “trust fund”. Even though we may not get what we prayed for, God will still honor our prayer and answer our prayer in a different way.

Thank you Proverbs 31 and Melissa for providing these free online Bible studies. They have really helped me to stay on track with God.

  27. Kyndra (OBS Group leader) says:

THANK YOU Pastor for a wonderful book! I’ve already passed the book to a leader in our church (and a close friend!) to hopefully encourage a small group locally on Greater. I learned so many things, and don’t want to settle for mediocrity any longer! Love, love, love the my father says I am mantra! I so need to remember what God says I am, and this is an easy way to do so. Chapter 11 was the most eye opening chapter for me in the season of my life that I am at. It never clicked to me that though I am to love everyone, family in particular, I don’t have to give them full access to my heart and life. Boundaries can help my greater if I erect them with the proper motives and mindset — to grow closer in my walk with God and letting Him shine through me.

The Greater than sign is fabulous! I found myself using it several times in the office…just a > sign jotted on a piece of paper that I was working on allowed me to redirect my focus from the frustration of what wasn’t going right to the one who is greater than all! I know that I’ll be using the > from now on for this purpose!

Thank you to Elevation Church for posting the sermons on the web. During this study I found myself listening to the sermons while at work and they really helped me to get through the day with a much better attitude. This is the really busy time at my office, and this year I have been less stressed than ever because I have had a greater focus!

Thank you very much for the book Greater, and Melissa, for the online Bible study. It has truly been life changing!

  28. wow where to start. I had trouble beginning to read this book. My life always kept me from it. Then I was so far behind you guys. I just said, “Father when you’re ready, I know You’ll give me the time to read the book” well I got caught up in a week”s time. God opened my schedule, my time, my life and sat me down and gave me something that will forever change my life. I want to say many thanks to Pastor steven for writing this book and to Melissa for leading an awesome study. I found myself looking over my shoulder to see if you were standing beside me and writing my life down. I am so encouraged by your book. If I will allow God to use me, He will. It doesn’t matter what is going on or what I don’t have. As long as I trust Him, He will do greater things through me than I could ever imagine. This book will be picked up and read over and over again sort of as a mini pep talk. so from the bottom of my heart Thanks so much…

  29. Thank you Pastor Steve for such an awesome book and for putting it together so beautifully that it speaks directly to the reader. I aslo thank God for sowing the seed of this book in your heart and your obedience to its completion.

I am still on my journey to completing the book and on my journey to finding out what God has planned for me in terms of the Greater Life. I struggle to get clarity and confirmation sometimes but because my Daddy said so, I believe it will be revealed to me in the fullness of time – in His own perfect time.

I am burning those plows and believe that there is more he wants to do through my limitations. He has a trust fund with my name on it and I am believing him for a greater life. As I draw closer to God through reading the bible and focusing on His faithfulness, I have no fear. The journey continues and I am so thankful for this book and your ministry. I have downloaded a few of your sermons to listen and to share with friends and family.

Thank you Melissa for sharing and leading this OBS.

    Bring on 2013…..

  30. Remember in Toy Story when the little aliens in the Pizza Store game were picked up by The Clas and the others all whisper, ‘You have been chosen!’
Pastor Steven, YOU have been chosen….to use your life to minister to mine….the work you are doing by humbling yourself and allowing God’s Greater to flow through you is inspirational. I have an overwhelming feeling of peace as I have learned to walk headstrong into my GreatNess, equipped by God’s strength. Thank you! For helping me to focus on Truth. For allowing yourself to be chosen….and in turn allowing Melissa to be chosen….and used for God’s glory. I believe that many more lives will be touched as a result.
    To God be the glory!

  31. Thank you Pastor Furtick for reminding us all of the hope and plans God has for us to be Greater and to not settle for mediocrity. It is easy to be saddled down with good but it takes faith to step out for the greater life God has for us. I loved the chapter where you tell your son and all of the rest of us to remember that “My daddy says I am”. Whenever I have self doubt I will remember this. I am grateful for the story of Elisha and his process. I listen to your podcasts and realize that this life is a never ending Process where we need to keep our relationship with God as a priority to know what he has next for us.
For Melissa Taylor and the entire OBS team, thank you all for a wonderful support system. My group on facebook was wonderful and very encouraging.

Thank you for all you do for God’s glory. You have touched the lives of so many through this book and your ministry.

  32. Thru reading and studying Greater, I realized I don’t want to settle for miserable mediocrity! I have to face my fears and insecurities in order to have God work greater in my life. This study has come at the perfect time in my life as I feel God leading me to a change in my nursing career. Whoever He leads I’ll go.

  33. Melissa,
I again want to thank you for this study. I want to thank Pastor Steve for this wonderful book. It has helped me put some things in my past behind me and has helped to increase my passion for Christ. It’s also helped me to see “humility is obedience”. Humility isn’t letting people trample on you but allowing God o use you. Thank you both!!!!!
I look forward to other studies.

  34. This book has come a perfect time in my life. God is calling me to do greater things and eventhough sometimes I do not understand and I need to be obedient and just do what I am being called to do! I love this book and every other study I have done with you guys. It always seems that what ever study I do it is what I need at that time in my life. Thank you guys for all you do!!

  35. I am wanting to buy a copy of Greater for my friend. I went to the Provebs 31 Ministries website to purchase it and it won’t pop up. I have tried typing in the whole title of the book and just the author’s name. Nothing comes up. I see all of the other books – Unglued, Confident Heart, etc. Will you help me out.

    Thank you,

  36. deborah fultner says:

This is the most powerful book I’ve ever read. I felt God speaking to me through out the book. I was ready for it because God had been preparing my heart. My prayer is that I don’t grow weary but stay the course which God has for me.
I have had ALS 7 years next month. It has been a blessing to me. I would be glad to answer any questions your father may have. I don’t have all of the answers but I may know where to find them.

  37. Polly Schneider says:

What an amazing book. I don’t even know where to start. It gave me a completely different outlook on the christian life. There was something in every chapter that spoke to me. Chapter 9 was especially powerful to me. I saw how important obedience is to God. That and humility, I saw for the first time how much these traits mean to Him. I definitely saw how lacking I have been in these areas. But thankfully God is still working on me. I can see that now. I had just about given up hope that God could do anything in my life. Thanks, Pastor Furtick for giving me hope again!

  38. Dear OBS Leaders, Melissa, P31 ladies, and Pastor Furtick:

WOW!!! At first I wasn’t sure if this was for me, and struggled with reading the first few pages. Then words began to leap out at me. I couldn’t stop reading. I have had personal struggles that kept me from being caught up in this study, but God provided me the opportunity to finish my book… And, boy was it for me. God showed me that part if my greater is raising 6 boys who aren’t my own. I was struggling with the fact that all my time is consumed in the work involved here. I thought I was missing out inky greater life in God.. then as I read, page after page, I saw the need, the greater purpose. So I accepted the call. And if that means I have to be behind in my studies, I have to do more laundry, wash more dishes, help with excessive homework, and live with the toilet seat up more than I care to, then I have to serve the king. He will make a way. It’s gotten easier. I took 5 boys to church with me this morning. And they were all standing and clapping for the glory of God!!! Thank you Jesus. Now for the other kids.. Did I mention we have a combined total of 10 kids between us?? Ages 24-10! 9 boys, 1 girl.. God is working in my midst, all for the greater good.. I’m excited!!!
.. Oh and my cousin attends your church.. She sent me links of strike the water.. Awesome stuff!!!

  39. Pastor Furtick,

I still have one last chapter to read in your book, Greater. However, I have been very challenged by your book and encouraged to live a greater life for God’s kingdom. I’m still unsure of what all this entails, but I’m excited for what God is going to do in and through me this year! I also wanted to thank you for Elevation- I grew up in Charlotte and every time I am home to visit my parents I get so excited to attend your church. I also try to keep up with the podcasts. Your messages have really strengthened my faith in God by leaps and bounds. I am thankful that my parents now attend Elevation and I have seen their faith also grow tremendously. Thank you for being bold, down to earth, and real in God’s teachings. Keep on doing what you’re doing!

Thank you and many blessings to you and your family!!

  40. This book really changed the way that I look at my life. Especially my relationships. “I pray that you will no longer settle for good enough in your closest relationships, existing together but not really engaging each other.” My prayer is that I don’t get caught up in all the busyness of my life and forget my relationships with my friends and family. I really need to show them how much they mean to me and take the time out to be with them.

  41. As I sit here reading through my notes from the discussion pages of Greater, I can’t help but feel not ony overjoyed by my eyes having been opened to so many things about me, God and my Purpose but very empowered by the Holy Spirit getting stronger in me and working His will. Pastor Furtick, I can’t thank you enough for writing this book, it came to me at the exact time I needed it (I had been praying about this very thing and came across it by a random Facebook post). While it’s been challenging and quite difficult to face some truths about myself, your words have been enormously helpful in guiding me towards Gods path for me.

Right now My Greater life is really and truly living as God would want and putting Him first. This means daily prayer and Bible study, getting more involved at my Church, being more out spoken about my faith and being ready and willing to take that leap of faith whenever He calls and wherever it may lead. God bless you Pastor Furtick and everyone who made this study possible!

  42. This book and OBS could not have come at a better time in my life. I have always taken to heart Jer. 29:11 but over the past year I have begun to doubt my “greater” purpose here on earth and with my family and friends. Thanks to your insight and guidance Pastor Furtick from God for writing this book there were many days when reading a chapter that all I could say is Wow! I felt like it was talking directly to me and gave me hope to know that God is still in control of my life even when I do not know the direction or path it is going, sometimes I wish I had someone throw a cloak on me and tell me which way to go.

  43. Hi!
I just want to say that this is a must read book. What Pastor Steve wrote in the book gave me the courage to burn some of my old plows that I really knew I should burn, but didn’t have the courage to do. I have taken the first step and burned my plow. I know that I have other things to unload, but it is inspiring to read the encouragement and the use of Biblical characters come to life. I am behind on finishing the book, but I just want to say that God has given you a gift and my youngest has also read another of your books. I am planning on purchasing one each for both of my sons. So much of the book spoke to me. Thanks for making it real!
Pastor Steve, you are a blessing from God!

  44. This book was absolutely amazing and inspiring. My book looks like a highlighter exploded all over it – that’s how much content I believed was important and what I wanted to remember. I’ve never gotten to the END of a book and felt so energized and excited. I cannot bring myself to put Greater on a bookshelf. I must keep it out where I can see it to remind myself of all it’s wonderful teachings. Thank you Steven!

  45. Marci Skinner says:

The study of Greater has changed my life by affirming for me that God will use me where He feels the need no matter where I am, what my circumstances are and no matter how unqualified I feel that I am….during this study, I also studied and completed the classes to become an Associate Minister…my specialty is women’s studies and I have never been so blessed….we like so many are struggling with finances but God will provide what we need.

  46. Nichole Wolland (OBS leader) says:

Greater has showed me that I need to be Greater right where I am! I need to be more engaged as a wife & mother. I need to fill my head with Godly things so that I am able to do this. I have learned I need to look for the small steps that I can take to be Greater & not be looking so far into the future. Thanks for showing me how special I am to God & that I can do Greater things!

Melissa, once again, thanks for a fabulous study. The care & love you feel for each one of us is felt in each word you share with us.

  47. This book was just what I need at this time in my life! I want to say ‘Thank you” to Pastor Steven Furtick for writing this book and “thank you!” to Melissa and the whole OBS team for doing this study! It was wonderful! My faith is built believing for God to do greater things in my life and I am challenged to be greater in what I am already doing. Blessings to you all for your obedience to His calling! Love, Sue

  48. Debra W. Frost says:

I hope it is not too late to be included in the closing remarks. First I want to say that the book and the OBS group study was really awesome! The book and the stories have been forever implanted in my mind. (which seems weird). I suppose the point that struck home for me was that I was settling for everything in my life at this point and time. BUT, God brought me to my knees again and reminded me that he wasn’t finished with me yet, but had Greater things is store for me. Little by little I am learning what those greater things are. I read and study my Bible daily, spending talking to God all during the day, listening to positive music. So thank you Pastor Steve and the OBS team for allowing us the opportunity to study and grow in our walk with God to discover the Greater things for our lives…even if it isn’t all at one time. Greater has taken me from the valley of dispair and on the road with my Lord and Savior to never settle and do greater things for Him.
God bless and I look forward to more studies in God’s word with all the OBS team in the future.

  49. I enjoyed the book bc I learned more about the stories. I have begun to think that there is something Greater God has planned for me. I’m still in th process for learning what plows to burn, what ditches to dig and what to prepare for. The other women’s comments are thought provoking also. I’m glad I did the study and I hope that I will continue to think on what God’s plan for me may be.

  50. Hi Pastor Steve!
This was my first online Bible study, and it took a little getting used to the format, but your book was amazing. I have been in Bible studies where we discussed this verse briefly, but the way you explain it is easier to understand. God has used this study to help me see what He wants my husband and I to do. And I will be letting my pastor read it next. Thank you for all you do. Keep listening to what God tells you to do.
