Sorry for any typos…doing this from my phone.
To live a relinquished life means to completely, whole-heartedly surrender to Gid and allow him to have the control in my life and to direct my paths.

The Lord is my refuge, he is my protector.

I will lean on my God as he id my resting place.

I will trust in the Lord with all my heart, he is my confidence.

God is your refuge and fortress ~ Proverbs 18:10
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

Thank you for your awesome words and sharing how these words and verses will aid you in relinquishing (or just simply turning it all over) to God! I have faith in my ability to do the same!

  2. Pat (OBS small group leader) says:

Thank you for yesterday’s assignment, Melissa! I was blessed by reading the replies here. This has been such an awesome, awesome study.

    1. To live a relinquished life, I must FULLY turn over the reins and do His will, not my own.
    2. This week’s reflection helps me to live a relinquished life because it shows me that God is there to protect me and I have security that I’m able to rest against Him during good times and bad.
3/4. God is my refuge because I find safety in Him through life’s storms.
Proverbs 14:26 Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.

God is my fortress because He protects me from the darts of the enemy.
Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

I am so very thankful I can lean on God to show me the right way to go.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight

I am thankful that I can rely on God to hear my prayers.
Hebrews 4:14-16 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

I have trust in God that He will always be with me. :)
Matthew 28:20b “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

  3. Mary B OBS leader says:

So… For me living a relinquished life means letting God take the lead, by not fighting so hard to get my way that I lose sight of what God has planned. This has been a very hard lesson for me for about 4 years. I am more at peace now with not knowing what the future brings and by taking things one day at a time. It is not easy!
The reflection verse helps me to just know that I don’t have to plan and be in charge of everything for me and my family. I can sit back and yes, be responsible in my decisions, but to first ask God to guide them and to know that I may not have all the answers for everyone all the time.

  4. 1 – Our memory verse made me feel a lot like I feel when I read Psalm 23.’ He make me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he refreshes my soul’ – and it continues, but it allows us to be free in Him. You feel relaxed, quiet, FULL of HIM – and you are in that place of relinquished bondage of every day “stuff” – you reside in Him (our fortress)…..just awesome feeling of contentment. This is how it feels to me to live a relinquished life.

2-Our verse is a continuous and complete reminder of what we have been given – because it is, when read each morning and throughout the day – it serves as a constant reminder of how complete we are in Him. We don’t have to allow our burdens to run the course of our day.

3a) God is our Refuge & Fortress – Psalm 23 -paraphrased, in Him we have Peace
3b) You can Lean on the Lord – Phil 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
3c) You can rely on the Lord – 1 Peter 5:7 – Cast all anxieties on Him because he cares for you.
3d) You can trust in the Lord – Isaiah 26:4 – Trust in the Lord forever, He is our everlasting rock.

Here are my sentences for each portion of our verse.

    1) Each morning I take my Lord’s hand and with Him I take refuge in my bible study, in my quiet time, just me and Him.

    2) The feeling of His arms around me, of being in His presence is a fortress like no other, it’s not something I can find anywhere else.

    3) When no one else withstands, He does. I can always lean on Him, He remains steadfast.

    4) It is His strength and power and might that I must rely on in order to be empowered so that I can do all things thru Him.

    5) In my Heavenly Father I have complete faith in all things. Faith and Trust in what I can’t see, because of what I feel knowing He is within me.

To finish up, I must say that it took Melissa’s gentle reminder last night for me to stop from a very busy day (very HUMAN day) and relinquish myself to Him this morning during quiet time to really think about this assignment and what it means to me. I think because I did NOT have good Jesus time yesterday my night ended on a not-so-good note

I left at 3:50 to take my grandson to his Muay Thai class (we share this love!), I took him to meet his mother at 5:40 and went back for my own Muay Thai class at 6:30-7:30. Left there to go to get groceries – specifically snacks and drinks for my daughter’s softball tournament Saturday as I will be gone to the EW conference in Greenville, SC and can’t leave this on dad’s plate which is already full with a 24/7 business. I picked up Chinese, got home at 9:00 and realized the 2 shelves that hold the drawers in my fridge had broken I could not put up the new groceries! Trip to dollar general for white duct tape (what else could you do!) – pulled the drawers out, of course then had to wash everything – taped up shelves, reassembled (CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT TIME IT WAS)…and can you say RED NECK! time for new fridge! Husband and daughter gone to bed before 11:00 (and I’m furious, because no one volunteered to help with anything, so by this time, I am STEAMING too)- kitchen a mess, clean it – then have to attack the white softball pants for game today….WHITE, really? soak them while I clean kitchen, wash quick cycle – not clean – repeat process…wash again – hang up….Now adrenaline is flowing – Bed not until 2 am! – SEE I NEEDED TO DO MY ASSIGNMENT AND TAKE REFUGE IN MY LORD WHO FREES ME. Timing was perfect, I was up before 6 and spent my time with Him. Today will be a GREAT day. Did anyone else have a day like that yesterday!?

  5. Paige Ward says:

Living a relinquished life means letting God have complete control and living by His pattern for my life. I love how Karen keeps reiterating “In light of eternity is this really important”. What a great measuring stick for life.

Psalm 91:2 reminds me it is all about God. I need to lean, rely, and trust in God not others or myself.

God is my refuge and strength my ever-present help in trouble.
God is my fortress in whom I can run to and hid in not only when things are good but also when things are overwhelming.
I need to lean on God; He is my support.
God is reliable; He will never turn on me or desert me.
I can trust in God with all my heart even when I don’t see answers. He is working.

God is your refuge and fortress-
Proverbs 14:26 He who fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge.

You can lean on the Lord-
1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

You can rely on the Lord-
Psalm 105:4 Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always.

    You can trust the Lord-
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight.

  6. Kristy A (OBS Group Leader) says:

    1. A relinquished life is to surrender ALL to Him and let His desires be my desires. I love how to use “in light of eternity.”
    2. This week’s reflection verse helps me to live a relinquished life because it is a privilege to those who belong to Christ Jesus. He shelters us. He shelters us from anything that fears us or even bothers us. He is our rest when we are tired. We have a residence under God’s protection. He is our everything. By making Him our refuge then we have to chose Him and confide in Him.

I will say of the LORD, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! Psalm 91:2 (AMP)

    3.
~~ Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge. Ps 16:1…God is my refuge when I am tired and life’s burden’s become so great.
~~This world can be hard but it does not have to defeat me because my God is my fortress.”Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” Ps 62:2
~~Lord, I can lean on you instead of leaning on myself and my understanding. Proverbs 3:5-6
~~I can rely on the Lord’s love and the Lord’s ways.” And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” 1 John 4:16
~~I don’t have to be afraid because I can trust God. I can trust Him for his comfort. I can trust that I am His daughter. “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.”
    Isaiah 12:1-3

    4. Thank you Lord that you are my refuge.
    Psalm 59:16
But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress.

Thank you Lord that I can LEAN ON YOU and not on my understanding.
    Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

Thank you Lord that I can RELY on your way.
    Psalm 86:11
Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.

Thank you Lord for Your peace when I trust in You.
    Isaiah 26:3
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

  7. Tricia (OBS group Leader) says:

Here are the first two of my answers for the questions posted. Sorry it’s late! I’ll finish up the last two & post them later this afternoon.

    1. A relinquished life to me means that I give it all to God & let him handle each thing how he sees it best to. For me personally it means praying real heartfelt prayers insted of the short standard prayers that I do all too often. It’s me relying on God & God alone. It’s having faith in all that God can do. A faith that is not based on any current set of circumstances I may be going through. It’s a faith that does not change depending on the day or time because of the situations that I may find myself facing.

    2. This reflection verse, Psalm 91:2, can help by serving as a reminder to me that God wants me to look to Him & Him alone for my protection, my strength & my comfort. God wants to protect me. He can & he will when I turn to him & ask for his help. He wants to comfort me with a comfort that can only come from him. An all encompassing comfort. He longs to provide me all that I need, strength, determination, everything. All if takes is me turning to Him & aksing Him for his help in everything. God is my safe place. The only safe place I have. He’s my refuge & fortress. I can trust in God!

  8. Kyndra - OBS Group Leader says:

    1. Turning control of my life over to God on a daily (often moment to moment if we’re being real) basis and trusting Him completely to take care of me.
    2. It reminds me that God is where I need to turn when I encounter problems—I need to pause and go to Him first!
3.When times of trouble come, I seek God’s loving comfort as my refuge.
    God’s love is a fortress.
I am strongest when I lean on God.
When I rely on God live goes smoother.
Trust in the Lord fully allows my fears to be quieted.
    4. Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Ephesians 6:10
Be on guard, stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be Strong 1 Cor 16:13
He is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you. 1 Peter 5:7
Patience develos strength of character in us and helps us trust God more. Romans 5:4

    • Oh, Love your post, makes my mind say “self, Donna, girl, r.e.l.a.x and LET GOD go before all I have to do and deal with – and life will be less stressful…” what happens between the mind and the action – oh, my soul, rest and restore!
Letting myself BE still and KNOW He IS GOD! and in full control!!!!

  9. For me living a relinquished life is learning to loosening my grip of control and learning to be content, like Paul did. In turn, I will be happier, less bossy, and our home will be a better place!

I can trust completely in the Lord, I can lean on him and tell him all that is happening in my life. I can give him my worries so I don’t have to worry about tomorrow.

“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:2

“He[David] said: The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer;” 2 Samuel 22:2

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;” Proverbs 3:5

“You are my strength, I watch for you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me.” Psalm 59: 9-10

“But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise for he has been good to me.” Psalm 13:5-6

  10. Nicole DeWeese says:

    1. What does it mean to live a relinquished life?
Living a relingquished life means to give complete control over to God and to have peace and comfort knowing that God will never forsake us. In order to do that, we must truly trust God and understand that no matter what you or I are going through right now, it will be ok, God has a greater purpose. A relinquished life surrenders our own will to God’s will and have faith. Faith is trusting God, trust that God will give me what I need, not necessarily what I want, when I want it! Living a relingquished life also means not worrying about the outcome of a circumstance or situation, but to look for the blessings that God has already given, praise Him and be Joyful. I believe that God cares more about the condition of our hearts when faced with difficult situations.

    2. How can our reflection verse help you live the relinquished life?
The reflection verse can help me to live a relinquished life because reading it reminds me that God is always there and is always listening. I just need to have a mindset on Christ. Our joy, prayers, and thankfulness should not change with our circumstances or feelings. Psalm 62:1 “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him” God wants for each of us to search for Him during our difficult times and struggles and see His faithfulness to us.

I will say of the LORD, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! Psalm 91:2 (AMP)

    3. Write a sentence about you and God using each of the words below. (our reflection verse CANNOT be one of your sentences)

refuge-God is our refuge and shelter! He is an ever-present help in times of trouble.

fortress-God is our Protection and our defense!

lean-Lean on God for His strength, comfort, and peace.

rely-Rely on God to carry my burdens and rely on God’s understanding.

trust-Trust that God will never forsake me or leave me alone and that He knows what is best.

    4. Use your Bible. Search the Scriptures and find other verses that confirm that:

God is your refuge and fortress-Proverbs 14:26

You can lean on the Lord-Proverb 3:5-6

You can rely on the Lord-1John 4:16

You can trust the Lord-Jeremiah 29:11-13

  11. Living the relinquished life means recognizing and accepting our place in this world. Being ok with the fact that God is in control over everything always. Being ok with your husband being the head of the household. Being ok with working hard and giving what you have to give where you are called, but declining the requests which you are not called by God, even if you are capable.

I will say of the LORD, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! Psalm 91:2
When you fully put your trust in God, naturally, you will release other things that have a hold on you because you will realize that they are not nearly as important as God. Studying and reflecting on this verse will help you put into perspective the things in your life that you need to continue to work at and the things you need to let go for God.

Thank you God for being my refuge in my most difficult and darkest days. Knowing that you are my fortress eases my discomfort and helps me feel secure. Thank you for allowing me and encouraging me to lean on you in my times of need. You can hold me up and keep me going always. Being able to rely on you has helped me put one foot in front of the other when I wasn’t sure I could. My trust in you God is growing everyday and everyday you show me that it is you alone that I should be placing my trust in. I will continue to rely and trust in you all the days of my life.

    Psalm 28:7
    Proverbs 3:5-6
    Psalm 9:10
    Psalm 13:5

This study has helped me and it truly has been a blessing for me to Los know I do not stand alone..

  15. I can relinquish my life to Him – because:
He IS a fortress — my fortress and refuge, a place to hide from things and situations that overwhelm me. Situations I cannot control I need to let Him have and quit holding on to them. I release…to Him. He gives me peace and security. It’s a restful feeling to just let God. “Come to me…. and I will give you rest.” (Matt. 11:28) — He is my wonderful rock and shield.

I finally felt the thrill of living relinquished instead of living tightfisted all the time. It required more prayer. And more faith. And a little duct tape over my old mama mouth. But it was a huge life lesson for me.

relinquished life = prayer + faith – being tightfisted
