SLL Week 8, Day 5

Happy Friday everyone! Are you as happy as me that the week is almost over?  Any fun weekend plans?

I want to give a big warm welcome to any visitors from the Proverbs 31 Encouragement for Today Devotions! So happy you are joining us today. This is where the Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies take place. We are in the middle of Stressed-Less Living by Tracie Miles. Please stick around and join us for today’s lesson. All you need today is your Bible.

Just FYI~ Our next OBS is What Happens When Women Say Yes to God by Lysa TerKeurst. Sign ups will begin in mid-June. The study will begin July 28th. If you have any questions about Online Bible Studies, please leave them in the comment section and someone will get back to you. I hope you will join us!

We started off the week with this quote from Chapter 8, “if we are too busy to spend time with God, then we are absolutely too busy!”  In fact, our Day 1 assignment this week was all about making time for God.

Today let’s take a closer look at 2 sections in Chapter 8 and the Scripture they contain.

In the Chapter 8 section titled, A Step towards Healing (p. 164-165 paperback), Tracie shares 3 Bible verses that pretty much tell it like it is. Don’t let these verses scare you, let them inform you.  Allow these verses to guide you into making some great changes in your life! Anytime a Bible verse causes you to be afraid, don’t close the book. Investigate. Let’s dig and discover these 3 verses. Get your Bible out and let’s take a look.  After you read them in your Bible, click the links for more on the verses. These commentaries, explanations, and simplified versions may be helpful in your understanding of the verses. Don’t be overwhelmed by this task, but be enlightened.

2 Corinthians 5:10

John 9:4

Psalm 39:5-7

Once we take our step towards healing, we are ready to be rescued by God. (not by busyness, not by others, but by God) In the section titled, The Rescuer, there are some verses that we cannot overlook. (Well, we can, but we don’t want to…do we?) These verses are “feel good” verses, so inhale them, knowing you are so loved and protected by God.  Look them up in your Bible and respond to each in your notebook/journal.

Psalm 91:4

2 Samuel 22:7

2 Samuel 22:33

Consider the stress in your life. Where are you in your steps toward healing? Are you ready to be rescued by God?

SLL Week 8, Day 4 ~ Stressed-Less Living Blog Hop!

CLICK HERE for important instructions and guidelines.

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to read some of the past Blog Hop posts from your fellow Bible study sisters. The links to all of our previous hops are listed below.

This week’s topics:

1.  Trust. “In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.” Psalm 22:4-5  Map our reflection verse for three days and share with us how your heart responds to His Word.

2. Addicted. Chapter 8. Share the part of this chapter that hit home the most for you. What is your next step?

3. Progress Report. How are you doing so far in your study of Stressed-Less Living? Is there a lesson you have learned so far that has had a big impact on your life?

4.  #Blessed. Add to your #Blessed entry or start one today!

Next week’s topics:

1.  Trust. “I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” ~Isaiah 43:1b-3a
We have a deep reflection verse this week, so you may want to map it for more than three days! Dig in ladies!

2. Spiritual Vitamins. Chapter 9. We spend a great deal of time trying to keep ourselves physically healthy, but what about spiritually. What are some of your favorite “Spiritual Vitamins”? Which one do you take daily?

3.  #Blessed. Stress can cause us to overlook the many blessings God has poured out into our lives. Make a list of five things God has blessed you with. Once you have listed five, try for five more…then five more…then five more. You can add to this list whenever you have something new to add. I.E. I am thankful for the dirty laundry because my family is well clothed. OR I am thankful for the beautiful weather we had today. OR Thank You Lord for my family.

SLL Week 8, Day 3~ Meet Lysa TerKeurst!

Lysa TerKeurst…maybe you’ve heard of her. She’s the President of Proverbs 31 Ministries, which kind of makes her my boss. (She’s awesome to work for by the way!) She’s also a great friend who is very loyal and a lot of fun! This picture really shows her personality perfectly! (Email subscribers, click here if you can’t see the pic.)

You probably know her as the woman who has had appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, The Today Show, The 700 Club, USA Today newspaper, Woman’s Day magazine, and Focus on the Family radio.

Or you may know her as the New York Times bestselling author of 16 books, her most recent releases, Made to Crave and Unglued, have remained on the best sellers list for over 40 weeks combined.

Or possibly you know Lysa and her ministry team at Proverbs 31 encourage 500,000 women through their daily online devotional. In addition, she co-hosts a 1-minute inspirational radio program aired on more than 1,200 stations around the world. Lysa’s blog averages over 80,000 avid readers per month. Plus, she touches hearts through their monthly magazine, P31 Woman.

But do you know the everyday Lysa TerKeurst?

Okay here is the deal… there is a right way that bio’s are supposed to be done. So, I’ve pasted my standard bio above. It gives my credits and credentials but to be honest it makes me sound way more polished than what I really am. I’ve included it in case you need to read it for whatever reason. But this is who the everyday me is…

Lysa TerKeurst: Yes, my mom spelled my name that way at birth. She named me after a soap opera character…and a mean one at that! But she loved the way the name sounded so she changed the spelling. My maiden name was King which I would love to keep as my middle name but Lysa King TerKeurst sounds a little lofty for a simple country girl.

My husband: My husband Art owns a Chick-fil-A restaurant and is the most patient man I know! Three weeks out of the month he loves me and loves to do whatever he can to help me do ministry. One week out of the month he simply puts up with me and my bout with the Princess Must Scream syndrome. But hey, three out of four ain’t bad! One of the greatest things about Art is that he lets me stick my cold feet under him at night and never complains. He is a great leader who teaches me something about leadership every day by simply watching him live his life.

My Kids: I have 5 kids. Me! The woman who struggled to keep goldfish and hamsters alive when I was a kid and now God has entrusted me with 5 children. I do feel incredibly blessed with my three biological kids and two adopted kids. I love them to pieces. They are the most fun part of my life! But they also challenge me in the deepest ways. The best parenting tip I’ve discovered is pray, pray, and pray some more. I can’t be an effective parent without a whole lot of the Lord and some daily doses of strawberries with Stevia.

My Ministry: I work with the most incredible team of women at Proverbs 31 Ministries. What started as a simple newsletter to encourage moms has now grown beyond my wildest dreams. The effectiveness of Proverbs 31 Ministries can’t be attributed to slick marketing plans and flawless leadership. We are simply a group of women sold out to saying yes to God and He truly does the rest. I’d love for you to get connected to Proverbs 31 Ministries by visiting

My Everyday Life: I feel like a success in my everyday life if I get through the day having spent time with the Lord, exercised in some way, had a laugh with one of my kids, had clean underwear in my husband’s drawer when he needed them and made a friend smile.

Lysa is also the author of our next OBS, What Happens When Women Say Yes to God, beginning July 28, 2013. Get ready y’all~ as we learn to live with less stress, we will begin to hear God’s voice more clearly. What He says to us and what He asks of us. Could it be it’s time for you to say “Yes to God?”  Stay tuned, sign ups will begin soon!

Leave a comment this week and you will be entered to win a copy of What Happens When Women Say Yes to God, signed by Lysa just for you! You will also win the P31 Real Life Bible!
