Let.It.Go. ~ Week 5 Wrap-Up

OBS Gals~ Hey! It’s Melissa and I just wanted to check in and say “hey!” Hasn’t this been a great week with Jamy? I have LOVED sitting under her teaching. I love when I get the chance to be the participant and step back from leading. Thank you Jamy for a wonderful week!

Let’s keep going, we are in the home stretch! Here’s the wrap for week 5~

Take it away Jamy!

__________

Jamy here. It has been so wonderful studying with you fabulous ladies this week. Comparisons are a trap many of us easily fall into. However, I know that God is working through this study. You are here for a reason. Let’s finish this study strong.

Key Points from Chapter 9:

  •  I love this quote that Nellwyn shared on the blog comments earlier in the week, “The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it” ~ Arnold Glasow. Just like we talked about in the beginning of the week, we have to not try and manipulate or tweak a situation to speed things up. God’s timing and ways are perfect.
  • “Only when we learn to drop the reins will we finally be able to walk in faith” (page 168).
  • “Soul control is when we finally realize that it is only God who has sole control over the universe” (page 181).

Key Points from Chapter 10:

  •  In order to eliminate the comparison trap, you and I must choose to fix our eyes on God – not our circumstances or those around us. God lovingly made each one of us to be unique for His specific purpose. Therefore, we must start embracing the “whatever” God has assigned to us.
  • “Comparisons always deal an arresting deathblow to your contentment” (page 186).
  • “We compare our reality with the perception of someone else’s perfection” (page 190).

I have one more video I would like to share with you today. As we finish the teaching on comparisons, I would like you to view this short clip, Love Letter from God. It really touched me. I pray that it speaks to you today.

If you can’t see the video, click here to view it on You Tube.

Your Response:

  • Which of the reflection verses touched you this week?
  • What is your take away from Chapters 9 and 10? What is the thing you are letting go of this week?
  • Considering all the material in the two chapters this week, what are you going to be able to take and apply to your life?
  • Share how God is working in your life through the Let.It.Go. study.

Let.It.Go. Blog Hop Week Five

Only one more Blog Hop left for our Let.It.Go. study! It’s been wonderful reading what y’all have experienced from Karen Ehman’s book and we can’t wait to see what you have for us this week.

We LOVE hearing from first time bloggers, here’s what you need to know about sharing on our Hop {or any hop for that matter}. Click HERE the video tutorial or refer to our Blog Hopping for Beginners post.

This week’s Let.It.Go. topics:

1. Sound of Silence. Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation.  ~ Psalm 62:1 Many people describe their daily time with God as “Quiet Time.” How would you describe the time you spend with Him? Is it in the morning? Afternoon? Something new or something you’ve done for years?

2. Soul Control. Chapter 9. This was one packed chapter {aren’t they all}. Which of the five controlling methods listed in this chapter did you identify with and how will you get some Soul Control in the future? Will you memorize a verse? Spend time with God? Have a friend keep you accountable….?

3. What-EVER. Chapter 10. How did God speak to you through this particular chapter? Did it help you understand something that happened in the past or maybe help equip you for the future?

Topics for our LAST Let.It.Go. Blog Hop…

1. Lean on Him. I will say of the LORD, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! Psalm 91:2 AMP. How does this verse speak into your life right now?

2. Stunning or Lopsided. He is the Potter, we are the clay. Of all the chapters and areas of control in your life, which is the one you believe God is calling you to relinquish? Is there an area you feel you have already grown in? We would love to hear how your life is already making changes, bog or small!

3. With That Read. Now that you have finished Let.It.Go., what is the most unexpected thing you’ve learned? What would you share with the next person who picks up Karen’s book?

Let.It.Go. Week 5, Chapter 10 ~ Embracing Your What-evvv-er

Reflection Verse:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” (Galatians 5:22-24 NIV)

Assignment for Today:

Read Chapter 10 ~ Embracing Your What-evvv-er

Write the reflection verse on three notecards and place around your house to remind you of this passage of scripture.

Yesterday, we began unpacking the trap of comparing ourselves to others. Today, we are going to look at a passage of scripture that tells us whom we are to compare ourselves to. Get those Bibles out ladies and turn to the New Testament and find 2 Corinthians.

  • 2 Corinthians 10:12, 13

In this passage, Paul was talking to teachers of the time who were trying to show how great they were by comparing themselves to other people. However, the only one we are to measure ourselves with is God. When we do, there is no room for pride.

When comparisons start creeping in we need to ask ourselves these two questions: How does my life measure up to what God wants? How does my life compare to Christ?

At times, we can be so down on ourselves or listen to the negative chatter and we forget who we really are. Dear friend, I want you to listen to the words of this song and be reminded who you are in Christ.

His opinion of you is the only one that matters and sweet sister He thinks you are wonderful! Stop comparing yourself today. It will only kill any chance at contentment in your life.

Your Response:

Comparisons kill contentment.

  • What area or areas in your life do you find yourself comparing?
  • What question on page 192 brings you the most help this week?
  • What is the secret to being content?
